you mean, the basic settings (like bookmarks, extensions and whatnot) or also the really good ones you change via about:config?

I have made so many changes to those, I wouldn't know where to begin again... Is there a way to backup those settings and then restore them up?

Everything. The link http://fasterfox.mozdev.org/ will do most of the speed tweaks for you anyway. Your settings are stored in
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox anyway so there's no reason that reinstalling would affect anything there.

Fasterfox itself isn't beta. It's been available for beta versions of Firefox 1.5, which is now final.

Each version of Firefox will keep past settings when it installs a new version. Maybe if there is a HUGE change with like 2.0 it might now but not much has changed this time around just more security fixes and a few extra options.
