Anyone know any good websites or have any ideas to help me get out of debt? I recently lost my job and have hit up 2 cash advance places and now I c/n afford to pay them back as my last paycheck is WAY less than I expected. I also have some bills I can't pay and if I can get unemployment I won't have a check for another 2 weeks. I did a search on Google and most of the hits were companies that are just trying to get you to buy into their scams for finacial freedom. Anyone else ever been through this?

Go speak to your banking rep (or if you don't have one, just go to a reputable bank and ask to see one of thier personal bankers). Tell him/her that you want to get out of debt, and they'll come up with a plan for you. And no, they won't charge you a dime.

They'll be able to get your creditors to hold off for a while, and a whole bunch of other useful things.

Seriously, it's that easy....ya just gotta go do it.

First thing. Sell plasma, sell stuff around the house, whatever, but get our from underneath those payday loans. They will eat you alive.

Then call your creditors. Explain you situation. Keep them in the loop, and do it on your terms to avoid all the uncomfortable phone calls at all hours of the day.

Then look in your local phone book for a credit counseling service. In my towns yellow pages it is under Credit & Debt Counseling Services. They can help you out. It will probably damage your credit a little, but it will be better than being charged off.

I don't know what the job market is like where you are, but there are lots of jobs available here. Maybe not exactly what you are looking for, but enough to get you by.

Other quick money makers
- Sell bodily fluids (plasma, semen, etc.)
- Do a garage sale or sell that shit on eBay
- Pawn shit that means nothing to you
- Hit up family for $$$

In most cities, the turnover rate is so high for telemarketers you can easily get a job that day and start the next. It sucks balls but its worth doing it for a few weeks to get that paper.

I just wanted to add to the point about contacting your creditors. Call your creditors ASAP and explain what happened because most are very understanding. Tell them that you can make a very minimum payment due to your job loss. You may even be able to get an extension for such bills as utilities. Meanwhile, start aggressively job-hunting (as I'm sure you know ) so you can catch up..and remember to always have an emergency account to provide 3 to 6 months living expenses if you should ever get into this predicament again. Oh yeah..my hubby was laid off 3 times in the past 4 years so I've BTDT. That's when I started working and built up an emergency fund.

This is sage advice. I would also add not to be picky about your job. Take what you can get to get your cash flow going and keep looking for a better one. I hear all the time about folks who remain unemployed because there are no openings for the particular field that they want to work in.
