I just bought some melatonin and valerian root to help me sleep easier due to the insomnia Ive been experiencing from my current cycle. How should I take them? The melatonin comes at 3mg a pill and the root comes at 450mg a serving, how much should I take of each to make sure I sleep well? Thanks bros.

Skip the valerian root...

Take "one" 3mg melatonin tab 30-60 minutes before you plan to go to sleep. If you take it any earlier than that, you'll pass the point of peak effectivity and it won't help. If you take any more than that you're going to feel groggy in the morning.

Also, melatonin is something that isn't designed to be taken for weeks or months on end. So you should only take it when you feel really wired before going to bed. Otherwise you'll end up building up a tolerance and it won't work for you at any dosage.

You should probably figure out why you're having so much trouble sleeping and solve your problem naturally rather than introducing sleep aids. (e.g. give yourself at least four hours between your last meal and bedtime, go do a short run 5 hours before you go to sleep to help your system supress itself in preparation for sleep, etc...).

no more than 3mg melatonin.

i had a dumb friend who thought she needed to take a lot of melatonin to go to sleep one night and she said she felt hungover for the next two days.

houseofpain:

are you speaking from experience? i also have trouble sleeping so im gonna try having my last meal 4 hours before bed cos i usually have a protein shake just before sleeping,

i used to be fine but now i cant stay asleep for more than 2 hours without waking up!

I have been taking 1.5 mg melatonnin + 50 mg zinc + 400 mg Magnesium 45 minutes before bed and sleeping pretty well for 2 weeks. Before this the only way I could fall asleep for the past 7 years was with some ambien.
