I have come to the realization (sp?) that I love being a man. I love the strength of being a man, the speed, the all out physical prowess.
I love the effect I as a well-built, good looking man has on women.
Sure, we may get the short end of the stick of the stick when it comes to the dating scene, we may die earlier and mature slower (highly debatable) but hell, it's dayum good to be a man.

What being a man means to me:

He should stand up for himself, his friends and his family.

He should be respectful of others. In turn, he should NEVER abide by someone who doesn't respect him. (I'm big on the respect thing...I've had enough shitty jobs in my life to know that money isn't worth self-dignity).

He should be tolerent of other peoples ideas and beliefs, even if he doesn't agree with them.

He should take complete responsability for his actions.

He should handle his business and not whine like a little bitch.

He should never hold the power he may have (monitary, physical, etc.) over someone else.

He should be straightforward and honest.

He shouldn't be afraid to speak his mind...no matter what people might think of him.

He should have passion for all things (well, most things) in his life.

Ummmm...that's all I can think of for now. lol Anwyay, that's pretty much the code I live by (or try to anyway). I never had strong male role models growing up, so most of this stuff is just a reflection of the best qualities I see in myself and my friends.

I also don't think a man has to be "masculine" in the traditional sense either. Shit, I have a gay friend who's a better man than I am....I really admire the guy and what he stands for.

To me, there's a big difference from being a man and being a guy.

A man puts others before him. It is a scary and often thankless position but that's what makes us a great species. We're here to protect our women and children. I think that you are not a man unless you can protect your woman and support her and your offspring. Also, in order to be conisdered a true man, you must be honorable and live life by a somewhat strict code of ethics. A man must have ethics and strong morals. It's our job to be the stronger sex. We must not abuse it.

Currently, I am a guy. I have the morals and ethics but I do not make enough to support anyone else but myself but I'm working hard to change this. I'm well on my way as I put others before me all the time.
