One of my favorites was back for a while when I was deadlifting consistently. The deadlifts really complimented my upper back routine. At the same time though, they seemed to take away from my upper back development, and since Ive been focusing on upper back specific exercises Ill probabally get more growth in that area now, then when deadlifts were taking over. I still enjoy it, even without the deads, but my favorite is probabally incline or flat benching. I like tearing the shit out of the chest and shoulders, and like the soreness that accompanies the next day, as well as when my chest cramps up while steering my car on the way home. Also love the feeling of pressing a nice amount of weight for reps, and the satisfaction of hitting PR's on the movement. Especially since Ive been benching far longer then Ive been deadlifting and a 405, or even 315 bench were big goals of mine for a very long time. The thing I greatly dislike about deadlifts is the toll theyve inflicted on my back, as well as the little size Ive gotten from the movement. Some inches in my waist and traps appear denser and thicker, but I could get that with shrugs and weighted hypers and avoid the injury factor. I had alot of fun with them for the 2 years straight I did them though. I like the mental preparation and insanity it takes to drive up the deadlift. The bench isnt nearly as intense for me, even with maxing. Probabally due to the fact that the deadlift requires many more joints and muscles then the benches. I enjoy the mental panic attack feeling right before a max deadlift or beast lift. Im sure they will find thier way back into my routine in some form or another. They are an addiction for sure. But after pulling out my back for 3 consecutive weeks and probabally close to 10 times since my major back injuries in december I plan to take it slow with them for the time being. So its chest for me.
