Favorite Baby Names?

My little brother and his wife just had their third child - Lucia Emelia Alberico -gosh, what a great name. Their first child is Sophia Bella, and their second is Julian Christopher. I think they're good at naming babies. If this 3rd one was a boy, it was likely going to be Rocco or Sam.
What are some of your favorite baby names?

I used to stalk a girl named Lucia. She was spanglish & italian and close to perfect. never did get to sniff that nani. :(

um, baby names are also adult names, right?

I like the typical Italian names - Dawn, Donna, Anthony, Angelo, Joseph, etc. Not a huge fan of normal avg. names like Brian or Matt. (note: I have a very avg name that I fuggin hate. luckily, I am the type of person that people feel the need to call by my last name or make up a nickname). Dated a girl named Talia, which is a name I like.

But what I don't like is the assheads in my generation who feel compelled to try and overcome their own boringness and win some pseudo "who can be cheesier" contest by naming their kids "Leaf", "Being", and "!"

picking the name was a big deal for us, we wanted something that would not make him feel different, hence it had to be a "neutral name" in both Spanish and German

and yes, people don't give enough thought to this

yeah Emelia is my grandmother's name. we do a lot of putting relatives names in the middle. Like, my son's middle name is my father's first name, Julius.

One time when I was frying on LSD I had these weird delusions about a chunk of food named "Emelio" I'm pretty sure it was Emelio Estevez, it was all in cartoon land.

Those names are pretty WOPish. Dont ever name a dude "julian" either.

. . .anneliese (my one daughter). . .a client of mine, that was his wife's name. . .i just thought it was beautiful. . .i decided then and there that if i ever had a daughter, that would be her name. . .

You are shitting me! Those were my parents' names.

My mother's name is Emilia and my father's name is Gyula (Julius in Hungarian).

That is too freaking freaky. :worried:

I love my daughters middle name, I often wonder if we should have used it as a first. Xandra pronounced x andra.

I also like arianna

For boys I think that Isiah is cute same as joshua

I'm still going with Ian. I love it for some reason. That's my boy's middle name.

My girl's is Ellen. It's an elegant name to me for some reason. I think tall, slender, classy, when I think Ellen.

Too bad my girl is short, fat and a slob. Can I change her name? PM me.

I had wanted to name my son Ian William (William being his father's first name) but that got nixed and we went with William Julius instead. I figured for the first male born, let the Father do the name picking. It's only fair. I conceded.

Yes, I know thaty comes to mind when mentioning her name, but I think long term. I'm really not letting outside influenses affect my decisions. I live life like that. I like Ellen, the name, so I made it my daughters. I DO agree with you though. Ehhh. In 20 years, will we really be saying the same thing? No, but my daughter will still be ""Ellen", the name I chose. Looking back to 20 years ago... "Wow, I didn't choose Ellen becaus of some gay comedian?!?!?" See?

Xandra is one of those made up names. Its like you dumped out the letter tiles from a Scrabble game and picked up 6 tiles, and made a name. Why not just call her Alexandra?

I favor Gambino

;)

Have you ever noticed that names are weird in such that Every Brittany I know is wacked? Brianna's are hell on wheels... Tom's are pretty laid back. I considered all of that in the process of naming my kids. LOL

I am actually considering ONE more wee on to add to my family, Not sure of a name yet though.

My moms gave me and my eldest sister the same middle name. Not sure what she was thinking at that time. LOL

xandra is far more unique. I actually got it out of a baby name book, it is another spelling form of sandra

you're both right, your both also in 2 different countries :)

Just thought I'd point that out :Chef:

I'm not into trendy names because you really need to look at the big picture. We all know trends come and go, so why do something that will be gone at some point. Choose something that you come up with that you like instead of a trend making the decision for you.

There are people named Blanche and Delores and Trixie... Do you want that name for your kid now? They were trendy at one time. Those names aren't bad, but they certainly aren't the trend anymore. Just keep that in mind.

Live within your world, not looking at others'.

Have you ever seen that list of the craziest names posted by a few nurses? I'll have to find it. One chick called her daughter gonorrhea :worried:

Angel

you took a name, originally spelled Sandra and modified it to be different: Xandra

your are not wrong in doing so, you are wrong in saying that Xandra is the short form of Sandra, which is not. If anything, it's a misspelling of Sandra.

Xandra is the Dutch short form of Alexandra, the same as Mickey is the short form of Michael and PICK3 is the short form of gheigh and so on.

Luckily, there is a handy rule that says that names have no ortography, since they can be modified, for the meaning of the original un-modified name to be held, you can't modified it

now tell me... why are all the robert's I know called Bobby? My dads name was Robert but was called bobby. I have two friends whom's name are Robert and called Bobby.

Duh,

it's the same

Bob=Bobby=Robert

it's the diminutive form

lol, stop trying to use big words. Its silly, and Bobby doesn't even rhyme with Robert. Its not even short for Bobby, Why not just call him Rob, or Bert.

I am sometimes called Nic or Bitch, bitch doesn't actually rhyme with my name but for some reason I still get called that. :worried:

My mothers step brother had the most embarassing nick name for me growing up. OMG... I have no earthly idea what he was thinking.

Yes pintoca it is a variation of sandra. I did not pick it out because of alexandra. I chose it going through the baby name book. Saw it under sandra like previously stated. I know spelled with the x is short form of alexandra, never said it wasnt. Just saying why I chose the name where and how I found it!

Short form variation. Like my brothers are Micheal called Mike and Donald called Donnie.
I myself never had a short form to my name. There is not one. So I just ended up with nicknames

I like English names, like my own heritage. For boys, William, Edward, Paul, Robert, Ian, Nigel, Brighton, Bradley. Preferably all combined in the same name for the same kid. For girls, Claire, Chloe, Emily, Regina. And my favorite hispanic name: Luz Maria.

Now, I had someone in my help once who name her daughter Madeinusa. I thought it was a lovely name albeit uncommon. When I asked her where she got that name from, she turn the clock radio upside down, and showed me the "brand": Made In USA.
