Fat Loss?

Hey, I'm in pretty good shape (I run 6 times a week, anywhere from 2-5 miles, and do crunches 6 times a week) but I still have some fat on my stomach. I do lot's of crunches, and I know I'm starting to get a six pack (when I pull down on the fat I can see it), but I need to lose a little fat so can see it. Any suggestions??? Oh, you might also want to know that I eat pretty healthy, I'm on the South Beach diet, so I don't eat processed sugars.

Thanks

Quit running and employ cardio that burns FAT, not glycogen and lean muscle tissue.

Post specifics on diet. Most people with a "pretty healthy diet" eat like crap. Sugar is only PART of the equation. There are many other important factors.

Do you lift weights?

Try HIIT instead - you can do with with running. Do periodic bouts of sprinting while running. Go all out for 30-60 sec, then have 1-2 min recovery time where you are running/jogging slowly. But only do this 2-3x a week, an no more than 30min a time.

How long have you been training and eating well?

What are your stats? Age, weight, height, history, BF%, etc........

Crunches don't build a lean body, diet does. I'd bet there are lean people, with visible abs, that don't do "crunches".

Alright, here are the answers to your questions:

Diet:Like I said South Beach, I don't eat any Sucrose EVER, I don't have red-meat very often, I also don't have a LOT of fat, I might have something with cheese two to three times a week. I mostly eat chicken and fish, plus veggies and whole wheat bread. I eat three meals and have one snack in the morning between Brekfast and Lunch.

Weights: I don't do any weights accept for my calfs, I do do push-ups and pull ups three times a week though.

How Long Have I Been Training And Eating Well: I've been eating like I said, and running since aroung the middle of June. I've been doing crunches since July, and I JUST started doing push-ups and pull-ups about a week ago.

My Stats:
Age: 13
Weight: around 90
Height: 63 in. (5ft 3in)
Body Fat Percentage (froma place on the web): 11 0/0

Thanks

How many calories are you eating? At 13 you are growing rapidly and although I have no actual proof of this, I believe if you have to much of a calorie deficit you may inhibit your growth...On the other hand, knowing the amount of calories would help in fat loss/growth.

Ummm.... I'm not sure for sure, but I think somewhere around 2000

Hold on bro - the more I read, the more I'm starting to realize that HIIT type training (high/low) appears to be the most muscle sparing of all the cardio....tell me what you do? Walk on the treadmeill at a constant rate? Where do you keep your HR and what's you max?

HMMM. If I were you I would stop the diet and go with a 40/30/30 ratio. Your young. You need to eat to grow. You are still pre puberty.

You are 13 years old?

Sweetie, you need to eat a balanced diet....you are still growing, you haven't gone through puberty. You do not have a mature body yet - you need to eat to fuel a growing body. SBD is too restrictive, IMHO. And at 90lbs, I don't think obesity is your problem, lol.

I agree with Daisy_Girl.....and wow, it's great that you're so aware of nutrition and exercise at such a young age!!

I agree, it's great that your thinking about these things at 13. If I had done that instead of waiting till my mid 30's....I can't even imagine. My advice is this. Decide what kind of body you want when you're 18, 25, 35.......or any age in the future. The key is just to set a goal for yourself. Do you want to be freaky big or look like the guy on the cover of Men's Health? Then focus on that goal. If you want to be huge, you'd better start eating. Forget So Beach and focus on consuming at least 3000 cals per day and increase that as your weight goes up. Cut your running down unless you are a competitive runner (if you are, forget about getting large and muscular). I like the idea of pushups and pullups, right now that is all the upper body exercize you need. The key right now is to increase strength, the size will come as you mature and begin to focus on weight training in a couple years. Get yourself some dumbells though and do lunges and dumbell squats. Lil Dude, if you do these things you'll be amazed at what you look like when your a senior in high school and you'll be beaten the pretty high school babies off with a stick.

Great?
In one way I suppose it may be... since there are so many kids eating poorly in America...
However, coming from a family that enforced a negative body image on me since I was little, I beg to differ. I started dieting when I was 10. At 10-15 years old, kids shouldn't be worried about "dieting."
I'm still bitter if you can't tell... :p

Hey, thanks for all the replys. And, in answer to some comments about my not worrying about dieting, I'm not worrying about it, I'm just eating a lot more healthy than I used to. It's not like i count calories or fat or anything.
