farmers walk q's

Ok I have to start doing those things after seeing the vids t3c posted but I dont have any of those fancy custom handles for loading the weight up. I was thinking putting 45's (and a couple of 10s at the ends to hold them on) on my adjustable dumbell handles but I'm not sure if that's going to work. has anyone tried doing them like that and if so how did it pan out?

I could use my shrugbar for the walk too if thats an acceptable subsitiute? also do you guys use them instead of deads or as a finisher?
 
using your dumbells should work fine. I don't do them in place of deads--it's really a very different movement. I do them only because I compete in strongman. I'm not sure they are worth the pain and banging on the joints if you do not compete.
 
so you think they're not worth the joint wear for someone who's just into 'power bodybuilding'? They seem to be a staple of a lot of the guys here but if you say they tear you up then I guess I should rethink including them.

I tried using my db's but it didnt work out so well with 45lb oly plates on such small handles :(
 
its easy to build implements with galvanized pipes.

let me grab some lunch and i can post up the pics of how i did.
 
I think that farmers walks will help anyone to build both strength and muscle in a few places. I wouldn't make them the staple of my routine or do them instead of deads...but I'd include them.

yes they will help a lot... today i feel a pain like no other in my traps from the farmers yesterday...man i love those things;)
