Family begging me for a dog

VooDoo Lady

New member
Some background:

I work full time- I go to school one night a week and work out 6 days a week. My husband works his ass off keeping our businesses going (that means he works Mon-Sat and sometimes Sunday too) , PLUS goes to school 2-3 nights a week, and goes to the gym with me when he's not at school.

We have three cats that my husband has banished to the garage because they were making a mess in the house (hair everywhere, litter, etc)

My husband REALLY wants a puppy……REALLY REALLY badly….so does my son.

Am I being unreasonable saying I don’t think it’s a good idea?????

Thoughts??

My parents recently got one, and boy do they wish they didn't....it keeps them up all night, is so wild, cost them a fortune to train the thing and it still won't listen, but other then that they love the dog....oh I forgot about the huge canyons it digs in the yard. I think they just got a really hyper dog. I would recommend you just research the breed before you get one, and get one that fits your lifestyle (if that is possible).

I don't think that's unreasonable of you VDL. Dogs require a lot of attention and if you don't have time, that's not really fair for your family or for the dog.

We have 3 Dogs (2 small inside, One Big outside) and an Outside cat, a Guinea pig and a fish...

I agreed on the Big outside Dog and I care for her.
My wife bought the other animals with my reluctant agreement of just silence with one understanding.

I HAVE LITTLE IF ANYTHING TO DO WITH CARING FOR THESE OTHER ANIMALS other than maybe letting them out so they don't mess in the house... My wife handles all the care for them.

If your husband and (Not Son) agree's that you will have NOTHING to do with caring for this Dog, it would be OK...

Sounds like he is responsible enough to agree to care for it and not slack off and leave it to you...

You are not being unreasonable. Unless someone is home a decent part of the day the dog will make the cats look like they were the warm up act for Theatre of Destruction. Given your schedules I would pass at this time.

Raina has some good words, sounds like the time is not right, a new doggy needs attention, training and much love, now if you can give it that in a respectable amount then I say go for it. peace

Don't say no VDL... Make your family put togther a one week sechdule of how they plan to care for the dog.. Have this include feeding, walking (at least 3 times a day..). Require them to be very detailed about the times.. Let them know it will take a lot more time to break the dog in, house train it, etc.. When it is evident to them how much time it will take, if they are willing to do it let them... if they agree.. get the dog. When people start slacking off show them the schedules that they agreed too. When its time to take the cute little guy to the pound and all the faces are sad, remind them who fucked up.

Imagine you are your son.. and imagine your Mom telling you NO!!!

make it a Statfordshire Terrier.. they are good dogs for in the house. If you want more info on them.. PM Dcupsheepnipples or whatever, he is the resident expert.
