fairly stupid question re. straps/wraps--but please answer

Hey y'all--

Feel free to throw some friendly flames my way, 'cause I'm pretty much flaming myself for not being able to figure this out. I've never used wrist straps before b/c I put alot of emphasis on grip strength--and mine is naturally weak---but I've decided to use them on my heavy pulling movements. So a buddy gave me an extra pair and I realized I have not a clue what to do with them. Do you just wrap them as tightly as possible around the wrist? Or do you wrap them around the wrist and the bar? I guess I've never actually watched someone in the gym using them. Any basic instruction is hugely appreciated.
 
Put the top of the strap through the hole of the strap to make a loop. Stick your hand through the loop so that the long part of the strap is lying across the palm of your hand and goes out of the space in between your thumb and pointer finger.

Then once it's around your wrist, wrap the strap around the bottom side of the bar. Wrap it around the bar. You should be able to then tighten it by grabbing the somewhat loosely wrapped strap and tightening it by turning it like your revving the throttle on a motorcycle. Wrap until tight.

BTW - the other strap should be placed through the opposite side of the hole in the strap (hard to explain). You'll know if you did it right if both straps are on the wrist and the long strap part exists the palm via in between the thumb and pointer finger.

BTW - in the video the strap is exiting out past his pinkie finger, the opposite way that I told you. I can't stand doing it like that because when your trying to use one hand, after the first one is already strapped in, it's often difficult to get the damn strap over to it's natural postion.
 
Don't worry bro I did the same thing. I got some and was like WTF these things don't have velcro or anything. I threw them away b/c I thought they were defective and it was past the 30 day return period. the next week I saw someone using them and saw how you're supposed to use them. If I could kick myself in the ass I would have:p
 
Just have someone show you how to use them. You kinda need them if your doing deadlifts, and there nice to use when doing the last set or 2 of pulldowns so that you can get that extra rep or 2. I also use them for shrugs.
 
If you don't use straps

you won't need to. Because you will have a hell of a grip
 
Some dude at my gym tried scraring me out of using them. He said he got tendonitis from them. I guess its possible but I will still use them. Theyre great for back isolation and deadlifts. I also use them for shrugs as well.
