Facials (are they worth it?)

Im trying to choose between a facial or a massage....I thought a facial might do my pores some good, but then Ive heard that they are nothing more than a face massage....I know some of you gals have had them...can you please help me decide??? Thanks!

luv -

Are you trying to choose between a facial and a full body massage? I've gotten facials done, but sometimes just a good mud mask or something that you do yourself is sufficient. You can get the really minty ones that clean out your sinuses too. They feel great.

As far as massage goes - these are the most therapeutic thing I've ever done for myself. I was seeing a chiropractor for some shoulder pains, but the only result I saw was more $10 co-pays flying out the window. A good massage therapist, on the other hand, is worth their weight in gold. Prices usually run between $50-90 for an hour. Plus I tip. But they can also do a facial massage along w/ the body. Why cheat your body? It carries the same, if not more, stress in it than your face does. Why not treat them both? Then go home and slap on your mud mask and sit! Then you get the best of both worlds!

Thanks Sassy!

You know I have never had a professional massage....I know I would LOVE it!!! I just thought that I NEEDED the facial more to clear my pores...That's what I wasnt sure about - Is it more of a massage type thing or does it help keep your face clear???? Hey - I probly should just splurge and get both! BTW, how much should I tip??

If your wanting to clear out your pores, see if you can get a Glycolic facial - I had one a few weeks ago and my skin looks amazing now! It was relaxing too, a good therapist will also massage your sholders and top of your chest as well.

I've had glycolic facials and they made me break out. The only way your skin will benefit from a facial is if you get them professionally done monthly and they would be very costly. I would to one every other month and the months that you don't go, do it yourself at home.

I would opt for the full body massage. I had one in Mexico and he was great. That's another thing, nothing against women but when it comes to facials a woman is good, but massages, a man is best, since their hands are stronger.

You make me want to go and get one!

Ahhh, I love both massages and facials.

If your pores are clogged I'd say have a professional steam facial.

Are you sure you are cleaning your face of all make-up at night? Some of us ladies , myself included, do not do this and it really clogs the pores!

Luvs , I've tried many products from various lines myself. I'd have to say, Clinique's 7 day Scrub does wonders for my skin! ALSO: USE COLD WATER TO CLOSE THE PORES IN YOUR SKIN AFTER CLEANING! ICE COLD!

There are also natural products that help close pores, seaweed and a simple , crushed cucumber have agents to tighten the skin and pores.

Kinimom, if you are looking here, did you try this and what were your results? I told her this same thing awhile back....

if you've never had a facial and are prone to black heads (i have great skin i.e. rarely do i get acne, but i do have clogged pores/blackheads in the t zone (nose forehead chin))... facials may hurt... just to warn you... i guess it varies from person to person... but if you get someone who cleans your pores properly and you have some clogged ones...owww! my skin is red and blotchy for a day or two... (don't plan a facial on the same day as a big event!) not knocking it, but be warned...

massages, also when done properly can hurt too though... especially if you are training hard and haven't had one in awhile, but they are good tools in training (i haven't had one in awhile... must go book one today...) you can tell them to go softer or harder, but i kinda like the pain... it really helps work out the knots

not sure where you work, but many employers health plans cover a certain dollar amount on athletic massages as long as it is prescribed by a m.d. maybe you could get both...
