expired food

They have a discount grocery store that sells expired food and whatnot

some of it is stuff like icecream 3 months old

is it safe to eat?

I understand stuff like mac and cheese, but expired canned goods?

Kinda gross if you ask me

but my church has purchased a bunch for a kids's camp this summer

Is that safe? Or am I being stuck up?

I don't know if there is any bad effect or not, all I know is I drank spoiled milk once, I can't bring myself to eat meat/poultry past its sell date (or unusual visual hue) and if it's boxed or canned and passed "the date" all I can envision are maggots like in that movie with the little blond girl and the maggot filled beef.

old ice cream would have freezer burn, though not harmful, probably tastes gross
If anything has a lot of sugar/fructose or any other sweetener, I would not worry about a few weeks overdue expire date.
Canned goods are bad if they smell bad

Selling expired food should be regulated

Gross!! Some people will do that though. I got looked at funny when I told a friend I wouldn't drink milk that was one day old. No way there is an expiration date for a reason IMO.

whoa! Expired canned foods could be REALLY old, lol. Some of them last a super long time.

Why not just hit Costco? Seriously, for feeding huge groups of people you can buy big commercial cans of everything and it's VERY cheap on a cost per usage basis.

I'm a huge bargain shopper. But, ewww! I'm a little grossed out too, lol!

and I was appaled! Then I had to stop and just see if maybe if thats how some people live and I was being snotty or something

I would think if a huge (greedy) corporation could 'safely' extend the expiration date on their food, they would gladly do so. If it's past the date, then it's got to be bad IMO.

There are starving people all over the world who would laugh at how North America throws out food.
Eating meats/dairy that are old are one thing, eating canned food that is a month old is not tainted.

One of my pet peeves in donating food to the needy or a charity cause is that I will only give something away that I would feed my own family.

I get so ticked when ppl feel that because they are donating something it can be gross. WTH?

Seriously, shop the sales, combine coupons, don't be stupid and LIVE/EAT WELL. That's my motto in consuming all goods whether it be food or anything!

Just like when ppl feel they are "poor" therefor must clothe thier family at Kmart. Gimme a break people. Shop the sales/clearance at the GAP or Gymboree and you can get crap cheaper than Kmart! Ya know?

Printable coupons, ect too! Sheesh, I get annoyed can you tell? Sorry

I use to buy protein bars on e-bay that were 2-3 years past date. That was 5-6 years ago, but those things last forever. I think I'm still digesting some of them

Oh, I would eat expired canned goods that are only a few months out but no crazy crap that is years old.

yeah old dairy is pretty bad.
If it's blue cheese, then ok since it's all mold anyway. Maybe the cheese was frozen. Frozen cheese can stay good for up to a yr in the freezer.
I used shredded cheese I keep in my freezer which is 6 months old
