** Exercises People OVERUSE **

I was curious as to what exercises people overuse and just do them again and again without proper form with the same amount of weight thinking, in their heads, theyre really making progress. I have a couple right off the top of my head..

Flat Bench Press! Worst form I have ever seen before in my life, a lot of guys do flat bench 3-5x a week.

Preacher Curls I see so many people doing these in an attempt to build massive biceps.. but I rarely see standing barbell curls!

Seated Cable Rows But you barely EVER see anyone doing bentover rows or deadlifts or t-bar rows or pullups.

Haha a lot of my friends in highschool do the same old exercises DAY after DAY acheiving no noticeable results at all its just really sad to be honest. You try to give them tips and they just shrug their shoulders like 'I know what I am talking about...'

I would say alternate dumbell curls, incline bench, pulldowns, etc. I have never seen anyone at my gym do preacher curls or bent over rows. I do bent over rows alot, deadlifts, too. I guess im just not normal.

Db-curls

Using waaaay too heavy db:s and swinging up the weights.
Even more funny is to see them flex their biceps afterwards :FRlol:

People doing triceps pushdowns.... While being a decent triceps exercise these people really should start doing / including:

- weighted dips
- california presses or close grip bencpresses

Whats the right way to do these??

I do them with my back up against a wall so I can't arch my back.
Also I make a concious effort to touch the BB to my thigh
and then my chest so I make sure I'm getting full ROM.

I see so many people with the weight going down no more than half way and then back up.. useless

Another way NOT to cheat is to lean forward on an incline bench. Make sure your feet don't touch the floor. That way your most likely working your bi-cep and not your back.

There's this little dude at my gym, 5'9" 175 or so. He's doing squats every time I see him, at least three times a week. Worst form I've ever seen. You all know what I mean. About halfway through the squat, he'll start to bend over, then try to crank up over 300lbs using mostly his back. I watch him and I can just feel my vertabrae compressing. It's pretty damn ugly.

Funny thing is though, he never really gets any gains in his quads or hams, yet when it comes time for the long walk to the water fountain, he always does that "my-legs-are-too-big-to-walk-normally" walk.

Good, good comedy.

BOUNCE, BOUNCE, BOUNCE!!!

f*ckin' flat bench. people just can't deal with lookin' like a wuss, so they put on 225-275 and bounce that sh*t off their chests while arching their backs like they're getting a prostate exam. shit... i max (with proper form) at 235 and i'm damn proud!

hesselite

Fucking agreed dude I hate to see that shit!! One of my friends used to weigh 145-150 lbs. TOPS and he pressed around 300-315 lbs. as a FRESHMAN in highschool... he was only 14-15 years old! I was like what the hell? He would arch his back around a foot off the bench and bounce the bar so hard off his chest it seemed like he was going to crack his sternum. Crazy fuckin kid.

:D:D

Most overused:Bench presses, dumbell curls, wide grip pulldowns and those little dinky dumbell exercises that women do all the time.
Most underused: Free weight squats (I only see someone else do them in my gym about every 4th time that I'm there), Bentover rows and deadlifts ( NEVER see anyone do them).

Most overused is probably bench press, the gym I go to is small so most of the guys come in and just bench or do some kind of contorting curls that utilize 62% muscle contraction and 38% momentum. Never seen anyone do BB rows, deadlifts, cleans, sometimes squats.

I hardely see people do legs: I love doing legs. ;)

Haha thats the truth bro!! Those stupid ass exercises women do using like 1-5 lbs. dumbbells and they all think that theyre getting good results and shit. I dont know what theyre thinking!!

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Most "overused"/wrongly-done are probably ABS and women using those hip/leg-machines - abductor etc...? The ones you sit on and either "open" or "close" your legs. Should work (?) on your inner and outer thighs. Once even saw some woman reading a magazine while doing that.

db curls and bb curls for biceps....swing em up, let them fall down...no concentration on form just the weight...typically guys too....
:D

Hold up now I been in the gym for years now so I know my way around, however I rarely ever pay any attention to what's going on around me. On a military base ther isn't much to see anyway, but out in town or back home there's way too many stripper types vying for attention to give in.

So for the sake of my concentration. I got the head phones on as loud as they will go and I'm jammen somthing like Ministry, Fear Factory or Pantera.

If the guys that do crappy sets of squats bought a nice weight belt there would be less confusion as to whether or not their form is percise. I bought a sweet Cardillo a couple of years ago and my squat began to climb.

My pet peeve is guys working arms all the fucken time. Confusing pump with exhaustion. Too concerned with filling there sleeves to "look big" instead of actually getting big like me. Ha, ha:D

I say fuck'em. When I see'em next they'll swear I'm on the juice!!!:vanp: :doublefi:

besides my partner only one other person at the gym deadlifts, and a different one does straight leg deads..............but me and my partner are the only ones doing sumo deadlifts........ its funny too......... everyone in the gym stops and looks at us....... i do 315 for 4 reps on a platform so i can go lower.......... people look at me like i have an extra eye or something........ they all think im a FREAK!!!

i'll take that as a compliment

but the most overused is the fricking row of leg extension, seated, standing and lying leg curls

do these people really think its the way to huge legs......... im knocking the excercies...... but when you have a cult of people at my gym of people who only train with those...... its funny

they load up the machines lean way back and swing with all their might

gee...... i cant figure out why their legs dont grow?
