Exercise & illness

Hi All. I need some advice pls.

I have recently been on 3 courses of anti-biotics for a sinus infection and bronchitis.

Now, my Doc says that she suspects that this is a viral infection. i.e. medicine will not solve this problem...I felt better last week and hit the gym again but now I feel I'm coming down with something again. Luckily it has not moved down to the chest yet but it is definately on the move.

What I would like to hear from you guys is if I can continue to exercise whilst feeling this way. Rest does seem to help, but I do not want to take 3wks+ off from the gym as I am making good progress ito fitness and strength and I seem to keep on getting sick anyway, so I want to push through it, but not if it will cause damage?

Thanks.

Your probably not going to like this but rest is the best way. Exercise, especially HIIT style cardio can temporarily hamper immune system. Additionally lifting causes the body to spread its resources building and repairing muscle and when you already fighting something off your dividing your limited resources.

All of that being said, layoffs can be quite beneficial and can "reset" your system, sure you often lose a little strength but when you come back you often times gain that back quickly and blow through plateaus you were at.

Cool, thanks Z, seems I will have to manage my body/health a bit. Thinking of including a one week break every 3 weeks i.e. once a month.

Cheers
