Last night I woke up at about 12:30 am with sharp shooting pains down the middle of my back. It was to the point where if I shifted my sleeping position, pain would fire down my back and it would feel like I got the wind knocked out of me; like somebody had just kicked me square in the back. Even though the pain originates in my back, I could (and still can) feel it right below my pecs on my chest. It is absolutely awful.
This is the second time I got this pain. The last time was about 2 weeks ago. I did deadlift very heavy this week, but that was two nights ago on Tuesday; and Tuesday night I slept like a baby. I took yesterday off from the gym. Also, I deadlifted last week and didn't have a problem. I'm wondering if it could be from the heavy shrugs I do. I'll usually put 405-455 on the bar and get 5-6 reps per set.
The pain is really hard to explain. I could do a deadlift motion, and a good morning motion without any problems but as soon as I would sort of twist my waist even slightly the pain would fire and leave me gasping for air. I don't understand.
If anybody has any input or common experiences I'd appreciate it.
Jim
PS: I use a double-overhand grip with wraps for the deadlift.
