Excellent Drama Films

Growth&Courage

Can anyone recommend some of the most breathtaking dramatic films?

Two parts:

(A) The ones that are in many ways simple- like the ordinariness of life and yet illustrates it beautifully that leaves you breathless?

(Many of the artistic foreign films tend to explore such.)

(B) Dramatic films that bring out the most sad emotions from you?

Dersu Uzala. Very much what you described.

It is Akira Kurosawa. It must be excellet.

One of the viewer reviewed this film as:

First of let me tell you that, having read many comments on this film, I was bound to be disappointed when I'd finally watch it... Wrong! Kurosowa strikes again, after having slowed down a bit with Dodesukaden, this collaboration with Russia is a triumph and is one of his most beautiful and poetic films. In fact, it may well be one of the most beautiful films ever made, and the elements that Kurosowa weaves together are all perfect in their own right: the screenplay, for never faltering while focusing on a difficult subject (many films "about man & nature" seem to lose momentum at some point or other, like "The Edge" or "Cast Away"), the characters and the actors that portray them (Dersu and Arseniev especially) and the astonishing cinematography, all the more important because the decor is a character in itself. Dersu Uzala is probably one of the most impeccably photographed movies of all time. And under all this master film-making lies a sensitive and poetic heart, more evident here than in any of Kurosowa's films perhaps. In times like these all we can do is mourn the great director, who, ever so modestly and courageously, brought us the 20th century's most touching and triumphant pictures with an honesty and passion that were never rivaled since. And Dersu Uzala is that man's greatest gift to mankind. Watch this alone and open your heart...

Thanks, I'll get my hands on this.
