I had a guy in college to commit suicide over me. It simply is not the great escape that everyone thinks it is.

As 2thick said, the burden of grief falls on the family and friends to bear. It is especially hard when YOU are the reason they do this and they name you in the letter they leave behind. Because then you feel like pure scum that it happened. Although you never have an idea of what is happening, and techincally (and legally) it is not your fault, how do you face their family and acquaintances and mutual friends when YOU are the reason they did this?

You have to just let it go man. She was your ex. Even if it didn't end on good terms, you have to not feel guilty about it. There is nothing you can do about it at this point. Don't let it eat away at you.

I'm sorry.

I hope I never have to deal with anything like that...

Do you know what science has proven about the human mind? Now a whole lot.

Science knows fuck-all about the human brain. When someone has a head injury the only treatment is to wait. There is no treatment for most problems involving the brain.

I've said this before a few times but, my g/f tried to kill herself at least 5 times since we've been together. All of these attempts were attention garnering schemes, except for the last time.
I don't know if she really meant to kill herself or just went to far. My g/f hung herself from my power rack. I was in the bathroom taking a shower and came out to see her hanging. Her legs were on the floor but she was out cold. I ran downstairs, retrieved a kitchen knife and cut her down.

She wasn't breathing. Insted of giving her CPR, I ran back downstairs and phoned 911. While on the phone I heard gasping upstairs it almost sounded like screaming. She started to breathe on her own.

She was hanging for 5-10 min and had the oxygen supply cut off to her brain. We never knew if her neck was broken or not and it was too dangerous to x-ray her for weeks for fear of damaging her spinal cord further.

She was in a coma for weeks, during which time noone knew what the outcome would be. We were prepared for her to die at any time for WEEKS. She was on a ventilator to help her breathe as she wasn't strong enough to get a complete supply of oxygen herself. She was also heavily sedated. When someone is in a coma, at least in her case, they don't lie there like a dead body, but thrash around like a madman. The eyes and mouth open and close as if they're screaming with no sound being produced.

It's quite disturbing.

My g/f came around, albeit VERY slowly. She couldn't say a word for weeks afterwards and lost most of her motor skills. Her progress was like that of a human child from childbirth to the teenage years.

This was 2 1/2 years ago and her speech is still halting and she can't walk unaided, but she still improves.

Having to go through this was incredibly hard. Sitting at the hospital for weeks, coming home occasionally to shower and get a little sleep, not knowing if the person you love is going to live or die at any moment. I can sympathize with any person having to go through similar experiences.

During this time, I took it upon myself to learn as much as I possibly could about the human brain in order to assist my g/f recovery.

The neurologists originally told us she would be a vegetable and was not a suitable candidate for rehab. Fucking idiots. She did get into rehab after a few nurses requested we get another chance at an evaluation. Bottom line is that mankind know next to nothing about the human mind/brain. It's mostly a waiting game.
