Everyone's favorite....a computer question thread

Ok, I am on the internet behind a proxy that requires authentification everytime it is used. How can I run Kazaa or file sharing programs on it? There is a program that is distributed for the net here(Sockscap is the name) that runs programs through it and authenticates them to the proxy or whatever, but kazaa or anything else won't work. Anyone have experience with running a p2p through a proxy? I assume someone does.

I am pretty sure those P2P dealys have settings panels where you can do the proxy business.

your problem is in the actual proxy settings of the kazaa or file sharing programs. first go into your local cache and set the program proxy settings to "dual". try clearing out any mode settings that run continuously, sometimes this "fools" the sharing programs and wont allow the proxy settings to even establish a "run" mode. try that and get back with me.

Okay.

I know sometimes Kazaa doesn't play nice with proxy servers, but there should be a setting where you can key in the same information that you use for IE. Unfortunately, I'm not at home, so I can look in the menus for you.

My stomach hurts and I already went poops, and now I feel like I might have to again.

It might be all this Coke I'm drinking on an empty stomach.

You're getting an ulcer.

Most proxies block everything but FTP and HTTP Proto's..
If you can find a port that's open to the protocal used by kazaa
you can put it into the pref and get thru..

This port on our proxies is a highly gaurded secret unless you provide the Network admins some peruvian marching powder..

Network admins are usually easily bribed by either food or free t-shirts.

GOLF shirts with Cisco's logo works for us..
I pick several up at any conference I attend and store them..

I think I've been in IT too long.

I saw that and immediately thought "Dude, I want one!"

I've manged to stay away from the shitty pens and yo yo's that are always there though....

Best conference floor crap are the lighted bouncy balls, especially the ones with lights and sound..
I also got a cool little screw/ratchet set that was way cool.

Yea, I don't even pick up the nice pens, since I hardly ever write
anymore. Instead everything gets typed..

if you have windows go to settings and type in "cache" under program mode, this access' your cache. when it comes up type in "clean out" and then hit enter. it usually runs for about 2 hours. give it time. then get back with me.
