I am mentally not into it right now. Every day that I don't go I regret it, yet I constantly make excuses for myself not to go. "Ill start full on next week no joke" but once next week comes its more procrastinating. I was wondering if there is a book or tool any of you guys use for motivation. My will power is very weak right now and I want to get back into being obsessed with fitness. Training, lifting, running to KILL. I want to fight in an MMA fight hopefully by the end of summer but I will never be able to with these habits. Help guys, im desperate.
I was totally in the same boat just a short while back, around Aug/Sept. I had slacked off over the summer a bit, and "getting back into the groove" turned out to be harder than I anticipated.
Sometimes, even minor changes in our life schedule can totally throw a fitness routine out the window.
What did I do? I tried many things, including writing down my fitness/MA goals, reading more about both.....and I even went to a hypnotherapy session.
Yeah, I know. I can
hear your eyeballs rolling. Well, let me tell you, it was a total joke. My experiences may be not of the norm, and I'm sure there's good clinical hypnotherapists out there, but that's a totally different thread.
Anyways, what I did was just grit my teeth, and got my ass to the gym. And had a short, but interesting convo with one of my instructors.
I know, not the magical answer you were looking for. Getting to the gym was the hardest part; once there, I was fine, and once I started making gains again, it was just motivation to come back.
The casual convo with my instructor was about was makes some students excell, while others seems to stop coming or getting better. The term
"work ethic" came up a few times.....
That's what differentiates those that
have goals, and those that
attain their goals.
That convo was a bit of a slap in the face for me. We all know what we need to do, but it's a matter of just doing it, even when we don't want to.
The mental game
cannot be underated.
Edit After-thought: We all have our idols, be it Georges St. Pierre, Bruce Lee, or Royce Gracie. While natural talent might be what takes a man to stardom, all the work he's done in the past goes unseen. But it was there prior to the natural talent.
