Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as you. I'm an Insomniac with bad night sweats. I am very heat sensative throughout the day as well. I start to sweat when room temp is 68 or higher.
The only thing i have found that works for the insomnia is AmbienCR. It sucks I have to rely on meds for sleep but a decent nights sleep is worth it to me. I love the no hangover effect in the morning. My insomina started long before gear and doesn't chnage when I'm on or off. I just can't turn my brain off to go to sleep. I'm always thinking about things.
Naturally I have tried valerian root which was ok but I felt too sluggish in the morning.
Other things I have tried and have helped are changes to my dailey routine.
Don't sleep in too late. Try not to take too long of a nap if I do nap during the day. (I work from home so I have this ability )
I go to the gym in the morning to afternoon. If I go at night I am way too amped to fall asleep.
I try not to watch anything too interesting on tv while trying to fall asleep. I usually watch survivorman reruns I have recorded on on-demand
As far as night sweats I have a window AC in the bedroom and I keep the room like a meat locker at 58-60 degrees and sleep with a down comforter.
