ephedra and ephedrine

muscelove

New member
I know ephedra is banned but ephedrine is still around? And its a common ingredient in expectorants? Does it have the same effects as ephedra? How potent of a fatburner is this?

Ephedra is the natural form and Ephedrine is the synthetic. You can find it in most gas stations.
As far as working the same...I'm not sure.

I think ephedrine hits your blood faster and is more potent (assuming ephedra is the natural ma huang)

Ephedrine is a nasal decongestant but they mostly use pseudoephedrine in cold medicine

maybe it is just in my head but i have be using sudafed (pseudoephedrine) and seem to be haing very good results - (i have a sinus condtion that is being helped also) - you can get 120mg capsules that i use about 2 a day and so far it seems to be better than ephedra (same results with fewer side effects) - problem is the ingredients are coveted by those who make meth and you have to go to the pharmacy counter to get a package (but it is cheap!)

Well, I wouldn't stay on eph for long periods of time. A friend of mine who knows a lot more then I do on pharmacolgy issues, told me that eph should be cycled. He said that staying on it for long periods of time can be hard on your adrenal glands. I'm no expert on this matter, but it seems to make sense to me. The only thing I really noticed is that if I stay on it too long, my body starts becoming immune to it, therefor I need higher doses. So, I never stay on it for more than a few weeks at a time.

These terms are used to refer to the same substance derived from the plant Ephedra. (There are many common names for these evergreen plants, including squaw tea and Mormon tea.) Ephedra is a shrub-like plant that is found in desert regions in central Asia and other parts of the world. The dried greens of the plant are used medicinally. Ephedra is a stimulant containing the herbal form of ephedrine, an FDA-regulated drug found in over-the-counter asthma medications.

In the United States, ephedra and ephedrine are sold in health food stores under a variety of brand names. Ephedrine is widely used for weight loss, as an energy booster, and to enhance athletic performance. These products often contain other stimulants, such as caffeine, which may have synergistic effects and increase the potential for adverse effects. Ephedra is often touted as the "herbal fen-phen."

Ephedra's main active medical ingredients are the alkaloids ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. The ephedras also contain various tannins and related chemicals. The stem contains 1-3% total alkaloids, with ephedrine accounting for 30-90% of this total. The concentrations of these alkaloids depends upon the particular species of ephedra used.
