Over the last week I've been disgusted by two incidents involving New Orleans refugees who feel entitled to special treatment. At the restaurant next to the bar where I work, the manager comped lunch meals to a couple after finding out that they were flood refugees. They then started running up the tab with more drinks, appetizers, desserts and such. There was no tip on the table when they left, either. The couple then re-appeared at dinner time expecting more.
And last night in the bar where I do the sound for the live bands, a group of rowdy customers started heckling the band with requests. The band was a sort of Grateful Dead-ish hippy jam band playing mostly songs they wrote themselves, the requests were for classic R&B tunes like "Mustang Sally". The group of hecklers got quite belligerent when their requests were politely refused, and claimed that because they were from New Orleans that they were "entitled".
I wonder how much of this is going on in other cities that are hosting numbers of refugees?
