Emailing a resume

I was looking at some companies on the computer to send my resume to. They say e mail it...Now...should I e mail it in the bed of the mail or should I upload it. If I upload it should i put the cover letter first or just send the resume only...or....should i put the cover letter inside the bed of the e mail and upload the resume....wtf can i do?

I know they say email it but I would consider that tacky.

Emails get deleted often and I'm sure mailed stuff could get the old circular file but I would send it snail mail. Makes a better impression, imo.

Good point bro. I might also mention that I did that too. When I got out of school, I would send a resume to a company via email, fax, and snail mail.

I agree, I never had much success doing it this way.

I was thinking about sending it both ways. BTW, how did you answer the question before the post...this is the 2nd time this has happened to one of my posts!

I faxed it to them friday..but the ad said e mail. So i will e mail it as well.

Email and Fax are the worst ways IMO.

Sending it in on some nice cardstock in a nice big envelope through the mail is good, but hand delivering it with a smile is the best.

I would if i could but i cant. They only give a fax # and e mail addy. I tried a reverse phone # search on the fax with no luck.,

My company only goes by email. We never accept snail resumes.

Well at least put it up on a web page and send them the link in your cover letter rather than sending an attachment.

Honestly, I'll accept both ways. I don't care how it gets to me. I get thousands of resumes. Its the information in it I need. Just attach it......

What the f kind of crazy futuristic technological world do you work in ... ?!

all our resumes that are received via email are automatically scanned into a database and searched by key work criteria.... so getting one by snail mail is too bothersome. We inform all our applicants of this in any job ad or job fair we attend.

So your reviewing system is automated and merely looks for key words?

EXACTLY! Which is why you should sprinkle key words multiple times throughout your resume. Most big corps do it this same way. MOtorola did.

Like if you are trying for an Accounts Payable department position, use the key word Acct Pay under you resume as many times as you can. Like under job duties:

Invoicing and billing for Acct Pay Dept.
Filing for Acct Pay Dept.
Worked overtime as needed in Acct Pay Dept.
etc.. use the Acct Pay Dept as many times as you can.

Yep...I've been e-mailing my resume out for about six weeks now. I always use the e-mail itself as my cover letter, and attach the resume as a Word document unless they specify they want it in another form. I've got it posted as a web page too, in case they want it in that form.

I list all my skills up at the top, comma separated, so if they are using an automated tool, they'll catch it.

The frustrating part is, I keep sending out resume after resume, and I'm not even getting courtesy calls back.

I had that shit going for months. It is very, very frustrating. Like, how frigging hard is it to pick up a phone?

...word

When the economy is great employers treat people like people.

When the economy sucks employers treat people like cattle.

Sucks but its true.

Well, I'm guilty of this too. When I hired a tech a couple of years ago, I got hundreds of resumes. While I did call quite a few back for interviews, there were a lot that simply weren't at all qualified, and they just got filed.

I suppose I'm not really looking for a call if they DON'T want me...I'm just surprised that even contracting and consulting companies won't call me back.

When I do get an e-mail response back on a resume I've submitted, even if it's a "sorry, we've filled the position", I make it a point to write back and thank them for their time. I figure maybe it'll make my name stick in their head, and it can't hurt.
