Elbow hurt

Hi

5 weeks ago I was doing shoulder dumbell press (75lbs each hands). Just after that I went to the preacher curl I started to feel my elbow hurting. The next day, I was not able to add any force on my left arm cause of my elbow. I took 3 weeks off the gym. And since 2 weeks I go 3 times/week to the gym, doing machine exercice, no free weight and with about the half of what I can do normally. Now the pain is less but I still need to have ice on it each time I go to gym. I know that my elbow is recovering but I was woundering 2 questions.

1- What should I take to help my elbow?
2- How should I train myself? Am I doing well?

You may have a little touch of tendonitis. Most lifters will experience this at some point. To answer your questions:

1. Take ibuprofen to reduce the infammation in the joint. This will help the healing process. Also keep icing it daily.

2. The best thing you can do is to lay off of it completely for a week or two and let it calm back down.

Cheers,
Scotsman

my elbow hurts on and off as I hit the heavy stuff. I just take some celebrex, helps with the inflammation. hope this helps. :)

you could also try vioxx, that worked miracles for my elbow. also alt heat and cold for 30 mins when you are applying either

Preacher curls are bad for you? I have read that they are one of the best biceps exercises to add mass, is this wrong? I have a similar injury as the original poster in my elbow which i believe is a slight case of nagging tendonitis. I've always thought in the back of my mind that preachers might be contributing to this because of the odd position and stress it feels like it is putting on my elbows. Is rest the best thing you can do for an injury like this, or is a doctor's appt. necessary?

celebrex worked great for me too, also after about a week bextra really takes the pain out

bextra?

I have some celebrex and vioxx laying around that I've never taken...I keep saving it for that ONE injury where I REALLY need it...lol

bextra is a prescription strength anti inflamitory that after about a week of taking it really helps with my elbow/bicep problems....but it is script only and it probably isn't great to be on it all the time

anything that forces you to be imobile is not good, I would agree from a body builders standpoint I can see the value of preacher curls, but most do not approach this exercise with common sense, they load the bar as heavy as they can go and wonder why the bicep tendon feels like it's going to rip and they get extreme tendonitis in the forearms and such. There are lots of other exercieses to choose from that you wont run the risk of injury, as far as mass building I think straight bars are better.

I think is the dumbell shoulder press just before the preacher curl who didn't help. I am doing preacher curl since long time and I progress slowly with adding weight.

In dumbell shoulder press I usually stop going down when my elbow are in the same height of my shoulder that's ok?
