EF to do the Colorado River???

This idea has some merit.

And some interest as Velvett has telepathicly informed me that she will wear a thong of a different color to commemorate each day.

TB has a 18' Avon which is....just massive.

In order to prevent a sausage fest, the men would have to pay a sum for alcohol.......and lingerie for the women.

Not in the mood for a hard core trip myself. More like an inebriated float trip to enjoy nature and orbs/orbettes who are all full of themselves. So GD should prolly go.

I have two huge coolers. Lots of beer and champagne. Can't think of anything else we really need. :)

There are some slow stretches in the Colorado. Either some paddling gets done or I bring a 9 hp outboard and build a mount for it. Or we just go real slow a few times.

I say we bring some paddles. One of ya'll would prolly start lifting the motor and drop it in the river.

mountain muscle said:
When are you planning on going TB? The Colorado passes my apt. about a half a mile from me.

The best rafting is June when the snow pack is melting. Water and weather is warmer in July. I have more time in August, June and July are heavily booked.

So....one of those months.

Where are you at these days?

Sticking around the Parachute, Debeque area for now watching a couple of rigs. Doesn't look like I will be going anywhere anytime soon since they are bringing in 10 more rigs.
Early June the river is at its fastest but also muddiest, July and August it slows down but clears up, perfect for a nice float.
If people want rapids, black canyon is nice. But the beer will be shaken up. August is also damn hot around here which encourages less clothing. Let me know a little in advance and I will bring the Grey Goose.

that sounds like fun

I'm not shootin the rapids with a bunch of drunks ...no thanks!
Save that shyt when we reach shore.

It is about $75 a day for a pass not including lodging, but we could stay down in Glenwood Springs and hang out at the hot spring pool.
I don't thing JMO can afford it though. He spent his extra income on cheifs crap :P

and....no chicks :worried:

Not all bad in a way

But will Scotsman fit in the boat or will we have to tow him behind in a seperate raft? and another for his keg? Or will he just throw them to the camp sight?

How about I just bring my Raiderette costume and a case of MGD light?

Testboy, I have done the upper river once from north of the covergence, once from Flatwater and the lower river from Page to Phantom ranch twice... er... its over 5k PER PERSON to do it these days, and you'll do time without going down with a full licence.

Er... have you really just 'put in' with buds and run it? No wonder the feds watch yer ass... LOL

Chef, you only need a license for certain classes of water. I have floated from Loma until the utah border as many people do without a permit. They just use permits to track people if there is an accident.

Oh, gotchya.. i guess because we did the whole upper or the whole lower each time we hit some serious shit. Water was the highest in almost 20 years when we did Lava Falls, THAT was a fucking TRIP!!! Lost two of the three rafts and had get one of the guides heads sewn up... hairy hairy shit. Had to field patch and spend a whole day chillin in the sun making repairs.

We did it with 5 man rafts, four neophytes and a guide in each, and a support floater. Making camp, pulling out the generator the ice and margarita mix after a day like that and watching the sun blink over the rim was about as creamy a thing as I have ever done in my life. Whoa.

Did the upper from the convergence in sport yaks, THAT WAS A GAS but might be problematic for folks like tuc and oldin... not sure they have yaks of that overall displacement available in North America...

;)

When is this shindig? Can i bring a woman? She can deadlift like nobodies beeznezz, does that help?

I do have another raft of sorts. It used to run the Royal Gorge on a regular basis....as did my 18' Avon.

This Colorado River trip will not be doing any real hard core rapids.

Mostly for relaxation and enjoyment of nature.

No needles allowed. They do't mix well with rafts.

August would be my guess on the trip since June and July are real darned busy for me.

Let me see.

"No great western expedition was ever fielded without a master chef."

Does that answer your question?

We also need a really big bouncer in case any of the guys show up sporting a thong. I think Tuc or the Scotsman have experience here.

I get my own boal as I don't think you guys want me in the same boat with you when I am drinking from my keg and think it's funny to send you swimming  Or I could stay at the camp get really piss drunk and do some dutch oven campfire cooking.

Cheers,

Venison stew with spicy chorizo and yams, in the dutch oven sealed with cream biscuits...

HOLY SHIT... I will chill on shore with you big man.

Why raft down the colorado river when you can LOUNGE on it at Havasu? Big lake + Big weekend = lots of girls, boats & parties.

I suggest Memorial Day weekend. Copper Canyon, The sand Bar, The Channel, & Girls Gone Wild.

Thats like saying why do diving in Cozumel when you can hang at the YMCA swimming pool.

I've been to a lot of organized shin digs like Havasu and have grown weary of seeing dozens and dozens.....no....hundreds and hundreds of enforcement personnel. Not saying they are not needed, just saying that isn't my bag.

Besides, my 18' boat holds about 6 people and alcohol doesn't mix with motors very well. 18' raft holds about..........20? We get drunk and smack into a few rocks...no big deal if everyone has a preserver.

Also like to do stuff for the ages. A platoon of catarafts, raft, and kayak with a keg and some characters from here.............this has potential.

Definitely need some hot chicks with thongs....or at least bikinis.

Absolutely.

It could easily happen.

We have steaks, vodka, keg, and a chef.

Pretty good start right out of the gate.

Seriously though....I need to see a few thong pledges.

And not from BBF.

also....I need to add:

participants had damn well better wear a life preserver as I ain't going to hear nothing else..........the getting drunk part is for camp.

right?

In addition...all participants must be able to swim competently as stuff happens and people do land with their ass in the river from time to time

For legal and safety reasons....I also have to add that I am not a river guide and everybody must bear full responsibility for their own safety and well being.

For legal reasons....I have to say this common sense stuff............

This is a very mellow float on the Colorado. If people decide they want a little more whitewater we can continue into Utah past the Westwater Ranger Station, but we would have to decide early because permits are required for that part of the river.
Thanks for the idea but that is way too short. This needs to be a three day trip to justify what will be a lot of work. I think we could figure out a way for a few to arrive late or leave early if need be.

I like the fact that services are available to return people to the parking area/put out point. My Jeep and raft trailer is rigged to be towed behind my super cargo van so I can handle a little....but not a big group.

Been wondering what a good sized grop would be. I'm not accepting or asking money though I might take tips if the trip is good.

Also...we are currently suffering a dearth of thong pledges. Jerseyarts does not count.

I have some books on Colorado river rafting. I recall that there are some slow stretches on pretty well any trip.

Mountain Muscle....I appreciate your contributions. It is good to have local and knowledgeable input.

Also...I have a 10' cataraft which is the ideal raft for Royal Gorge type trips. It doesn't carry many but would be good for holding the keg with Scotsman guarding it. Other supplies as well because we want the raft to be roomy.

Can't be having my view of thongs being blocked by supplies you know. :chomp:

I'll take a picture of the raft and post it when I get a chance. Have a lot of things I am working on.

Plus we really need some thong pledges.

Also...have decided that this trip is not amenable to having kids along if anyone is wondering. Sorry about that.

j/k about JA's thong thing btw

I might road trip out there if I can make the dates. I've only driven through Colorado, and have always wanted to check it out more.

To see Colorado is to love Colorado. Only California and Alaska enjoy as much around natural splendor. Ok....Montana has some bragging rights.

Florida too cause of the chicks.

Utah has some amazing sights as well. I need to visit Colorado still.

TBoy

You are looking for an extended 2-3 day trip? What sections are you looking at on the Colorado? let me know and I can do some research on permits, camping etc.
With a little luck and some days off I might have my kayak by then too.

i doubt this would happen, so hard to coordinate this type of thing. we could def meet up though, and road trip it out that direction. I'll be due for a vacation in a few months...

Ok, if JerseyArt is going to be wearing thongs then I'm not coming.

I'd be in for that as long as it wasn't a pole party.

Dude that would be awesome, but I myself have got too much going on in the next couple months. I'd love to go back to CO somtime soon though, maybe when I make my next trip to the west coast.

It has been a while since I studied the Colorado. I have done the most exciting sections of the Arkansas several times...except for the Royal Gorge.

Both rafts made their living on the Royal Gorge previous to my purchase. In fact, the bid one says "Royal Gorge Rafting."

When I said mellow....I was thinking Class II and Class III.

I would probably prefer to raft a more eastern section of the Colorado mostly due to having to tow my Jeep and raft trailer.

And...where the hell are those thong pledges? Need I post a pic of my sizable shlong to get the ladies interested?

If it's going to be camping, I've got a few big tents for those without.

that time frame works for me.

We need to get this shit nailed down though so we can make plans.

Late August would be better for me. I'm going to Mexico to replenish my uh, vitamin supply and spend some time on the beach. I'll be going through San Diego Lestat, so maybe I can make a detour and pee in your gas tank.

Done. I know it's the beginning of Aug and I'll be coming down from LA. I have a huge Mexican wedding to go to. Can't wait for the food. I'll hit you up fo sho.

sweet. I've been to a mexican wedding before.. like 500 people there, all related.... fucking nuts

August is starting to book and almost all weddings are Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

This could be a problem as I'm sure most of you guys are thinking a week-end trip.

Latest thoughts:

Smaller group.....maybe 5-10ish

Week days

Less alcohol so I don't get my ass sued off.

Still need a thong to keep my spirits up.

No thong? TB maybe goes it alone.

Or invites Mountain Muscle and the Grey Goose.

What the hell? I spell out some CYA stuff to reduce litigation odds and the thread basically dies.

Perhaps I asked for it when I talked of being drunk all the time prior to realizing that I was inviting a lot of litigations should anyone get hurt.

I plan on doing this trip during the week in August. Could do it a few times actually.

Where you at Mountain Muscle? You had some good info.

I think a smaller group.....5-10ish whould be safer.

I would like to see this happen. We need to get some dates set and see what the everyone's schedules look like.
What stretches of river are you contemplating TBoy?
5-10 would be perfect.
Hell if no one shows up I will come and bring the steaks and Goose.

August 1-3rd looks good.....M-Wed.

Don't know about the stretches until I find my books on the Colorado which I have not seen in 3 years. :worried:

This raft has a frame with oars so one competent oarsman can pretty well guide it with some help.

I found that 18' was a bit much without some help when the river was wild....class 3-4.

In fact....my super smart dog bailed on me right before I hit the rapids.

18' is a large raft, you have a frame on it for solo purposes then?
LOL at your dog. He would rather risk going through rapids alone than with you in a raft. That should inspire some confidence.

August 1-3, let's try and get this stickied so we can get an idea of how many people can actually come. Let me do some research on the river and see where would be some good spots for an extended trip.
Hopefully I will have a kayak by then and at least be somewhat competent in it.

18' is a huge raft. About as big as they come in Colorado. I've never seen bigger myself.

Don't be disrespecting my dog. He analyzed the situation and baled 100 yards upstream of a house on the river. His swimming plus the current allowed him to nail the front yard and start looking for a new owner.

I would prefer not to be putting in and out. Slow stretches are OK with me.

I have two kayaks. A rigid and a good inflatable. I like inflatables for some reason. Mini raft in a way.

It might be stolen by now. I had about 10,000 worth of stuff stolen last year alone. People just pick my stuff off like birds at an orchard.

Early August huh? Hmmm, maybe I should just extend my July trip by a few weeks. :) I might be bringing a thong. :qt:
