May has an MBA. He and I have had some discussions about the worthlessness of that degree. It was nice of him to prove it to me.

Me - B.S. in Mathematics.

May, if you have passed the CPA bar exam why would you be going to court reporting school?

Myself, B.S. in Geology

BC -

Your posts age yourself. Are you in college yet or still high school? I'd guess some college, probably a state school.

There are many many factors in why an MBA /CPA may not be the answer. Economic factors change things; companies downsize. Also. those MBA/CPA jobs can be boring as hell. $120K per year is nothing if you are miserable. Trust me on that.

Court reporters make pretty good money, and you always have a job. Often, the court reporter is higher paid than the judge, because attorneys have to BUY the transcripts from the reporter. In cases with multiple defendants, reporters can make thousands per week.

In NY it is common for reporters to make well over $100K.

I'll let May take it from here.

In NYC garbage collectors probably make $75K. The average starting salary of a court reporter is about $27K.

If you are a finance major you should know that the economy fluctuates.

You should also know that accounting is boring as shit.

Both are reasons to change careers.

Plifter:

Here on LI, the numbers for reporters are much much higher. Maybe 3 times that.

NYC sanitation starts at $41K. My cousin does that.

Why do you think someone has to stay in the field related to their initial degree?
