EBT Gone Wild!!!

what are they thinking? its not like the government won't hunt them all down

The VA occasionally has astounding glitches and sends more money than they're supposed to..takes about three months but they ALWAYS catch up with it
 
it's undetermined who will foot the bill, if Xerox, Walmart or Dept of Children and families/taxpayers

Lot of Walmart stores lost revenue due to the food spoiling in the abandoned carts after the glitch was fixed, their own damn fault for not enforcing the limit.
 
xerox apparently had pretty clear instructions for what to do in the event of an outage which they did tell the retailers about. It's on those companies then what they allowed people to buy over the cards limit. The optics don't look good for a company that pulls in 500B to not cover what probably amounts to a few hundred thousand over a couple stores.
 
that's a good point... why is it that walmart is the only store that accepts ebt?? or so it seems..
 
I'm speechless about the situation. It's a terrible idea implemented in a terrible way that is being terribly abused. The only loser here are people who actually work and pay taxes.

Xerox should pay for the money lost as they are the ones that handle it, like a merchant or whatever.
 
I do like Walmart though. It helps people with less money stretch their dollars farther. It also puts pressure on other retailers to keep the consumer supply chain efficient.
 
Am I showing my white upperclass ignorance by saying I have no idea WTF EBT is?

I passed a gas station the other day that said "Now accepting EBT" and I had no idea what that meant, I thought they misspelled or left out letters in debit.
 
food stamps, temporary assistance for needy familes and Im sure other shit all go on a credit card looking thing thats an EBT card
thats about all I know about it

Most stores accept it, hell I saw a sign in 7eleven stating u could buy their full large pizza with it.

Most people are pulling towards blaming walmart, however, shouldn't there be some sort of consequence for those who exploited the system???

Yes, there should be consequences. But the moment you go to collect that cash, the exploiters will play the victim and racism cards.

they temporarily used it like a credit card, using funds you really don't have, therefore the balance should be negative until it's "caught up" with new funds.

Don't get me wrong people, I'm not a heartless bitch, I know many of those who used it really could use the extra food due to horrible personal situations, I know they didn't use it on like electronics or shit like that it's food, I know a lot of people could have used the break, however if MY bank had a problem like this and I used funds I didn't have I would be forced to pay at least some if not all back, so this should apply here as well.
 
Nan, I agree. They should repay. At first I was thinking Xerox should pay but the more I read about it and hear about it the more I realize that Xerox notified everyone needed to verify that their services were indeed down. Soooo either walmart of the people who spent the money should repay..

Of course you are going to get those that claim they didnt know and blah blah blah....Fun times!
 
Why should anyone but the individuals have to repay a fucking dime?

Whatever happened to self control and personal responsibility?

I agree.

But we've spent decades and trillions of dollars cultivating our permanent underclass. I'd like to put a bullet in the heads of the politicians that fostered their growth simply because they wanted votes.

In a normal rational world, sure. What are you going to take from these people though? You gonna have them take up space in a jail where there should be real criminals? I dunno, it's fucked up for sure i'm not giving those people any pass. They basically took food they have no hope of eating before it spoils. And frankly, most of that food I wouldn't feed my cat in any case. I'm serious, barely fit for animal consumption.

this ...and I do NOT see how its any different than welfare/foodstamps fraud

they know how much they get every month...
I don't see where this doesn't fall under the whole....you committed fraud and are therefore prohibited from using services

Before EBT cards there was food stamps and I still remember the first and the 15th of every month, food stamp brokers would show up in the parks and buy food stamps for drugs or cash. I heard it was something like 25 cents on the dollar. Next three days were crime free big party going on but once the money was spent back to the usual shit. Sorry I don't feel sorry for those people especially the ones who are obese which is many of them.

People I work with sell them all the time, usually 0.60 on the dollar on a good day. Co-worker had a lady who got several thousand dollars of her back child support on tax season, got her own tax refund on her 5 damn kids and got like $800 worth of food stamps all at the same time, bitch sold the food stamps, took all the money and left, she signed a POA for her mom to do wtf she wanted with her kids, we haven't seen her since....
