I actually "won" an eBay tonight, and there wasn't a last minute feeding frenzy driving the price up to some silly number. I can't believe it, I've been trying for a couple of items for several months, and every time one of them pops up, I get sniped at the last second.

I waited until four minutes before the end to place my first bid, and it didn't even go up to my pre-set max. I was sweating bullets refreshing the screen every five seconds, every time expecting to see that familiar red X telling me I'd been outbid. Oh well, some times I guess you luck out.

Of the two items I've been looking for, one of each had an auction ending tonight. While I won one easily, the other one got up to stupid money a few hours before the end, so I didn't even bother with it.

I fucking hate eBay.

No. The item is unimportant, but if I revealed it, someone could find the item and from there find my real name and personal information, if they were so inclined. It was a hifi component for my home stereo, that should be sufficient.

The details are irrelevant, I was just surprised and happy that for once I actually got a break.

I love ebay, but I needed almost needed to go to some classes b/c I turned into any ebay "junkie" for a while there. LOL, just kidding. But it can be really addicting once you get on there and start winning stuff that you see, like & want. I've sold some things on there too, so I guess that justifies buying when I am also making $ at the same time.

bidding higher so that you win the item as the auction expires. There's a way to time the expiration so that you can place a bid at the last second.

You're bidding on the wrong stereo equipment if you want cheap as hell prices. Car audio sells cheaper than week old dog shit on eBay. I know as a seller.

I bought a GoVideo DVD player and when it came in, I plugged it in and it started smoking. I emailed the guy to see what could be done and he blew me off.

I told him I was going to leave negative feedback because he didn't live up to his side of the auction. He threatened to report me to eBay and they would come down hard on me. He had already left me positive so I redded him.

He told me it was the USPS fault and I should file a claim on it. The thing was falling apart as I was taking it out of the box. Bunch of screws were missing and it smelled like an ashtray. He screwed me out of $40 but what the hell.

I have like zero interest in car stereo. Also, what I remember from when I used to have a friend in the business, is that the profit margin for car audio is huge, whereas high end home audio can have relatively slim margins.

Didn't necessarily say I was looking for "cheap as hell", just a decent deal without a last minute feeding frenzy driving the price of a used item up to almost the same price you could find a new one for.

I think a great deal of the ebay "bidding" is done by the actual owner of the item for sale.

For example: Item is for sale for three days with no bids. I place a bid on it. Someone else bids on it within two hours most of th time it seems.

Odds of this usually happening are pretty slim unless the seller is trying to engage you in an auction frenzy.

Auctions are dangerous unless you are very good at them.

It is also very, very easy to mis represent an item and still be "legal."

However.....they are convenient for those who spend a lot of time in the "country."
