EBAY question. Selling something for the first time.

So I have 5 or 6 phones I want to sell.I saw one on Ebay that was going for $80 with 2 days left on the auction. That would be a nice profit if I can sell them for that much X 5...

Questions... PLEASE help!
#1 Should I place one at a time up for auction or all of them together? "5 available" The reason I ask is how does the winning bidder get the phone for the highest bid, what happens to the 2nd 3rd 4th phone and what price does that go for? The 2nd 3rd etc price is way lower than the highest bidder's price.

#2 How should I ship them? Post office, Mailboxes... UPS store? The UPS store and mailboxes have been expensive for me in the past.

#3 Anything else I need before listing these things? I'm not "verified" with PayPal. I guess I need to leave a bank number to get it. Yes?

#4 Can I, or should I have a "reserve" to meet or just take my chances? These phones can't be used other than with a phone system specific for that application and it may not get enough interest.

A!

i tried selling something once and i didnt even get one bid
:(
so i cant give you any advice, i suck

Do the auctions one phone at a time.
Make sure you take decent photos, people like that, builds confidence.
Paypal requires a checking acct. #, then they make 2 small deposits into your acct. and you verify with the ammts.
Set the auto shipping calculator up on you auction, then add min $5 handling fee.
If you get international bidders, the shipping can be quite high.
I always state "ships to US only" and always get bidders from other countries.
My last auction was won by some cannuck, who never asked beforehand if he could bid...
I told him I'll have to get back to him with the shipping charge but, gave him a rough estimate after he paid for the item (minus shipping)through Paypal, well...
I shipped the item and told him the cost and he said well if you can't honor your original shipping quote...
I guess I'm eating that weiny.
Hope this helps.

1) My experience selling stuff (PDAs mainly) has been selling stuff one at a time.
2) The choice is yours. You can rely this cost onto the buyer as shipping costs. I usually charge people for $20USD for within Canada, $30 for US , and $40 international. That includes all shipping fees and materials.
3) Get verified with Paypal. Its not that hard.
4) I usually start the bid at a price that I'm willing to settle for and hope it goes higher. I don't like reserves (given that other people don't know what the reserves are) and don't usually go with a Buy It Now option (as the end price can be higher then the Buy It Now). But in the end, I'd suggested to experiment and go with whatever works for you.

thanks a lot!!!!

Good info. You'll be spared during the mass B Era.

How should I ship it? I will only ship to "lower 48" but should I put a single amount, like $10? or "varies" I'd rather not deal with "varies" and stuff. Just $10 or so, is that OK, would I cover wioth $10 for approximately a 3 pound phone? Not sure.

So I will list one at a time then. That may be a hassle though. It'll take a while to get rid of them. No?

Also what if someone asks "Do you have more than one available" How does that work in the pricing of an auction? Damn this system!! I'm banning members of Ebay if i can.

I'm banning all of Ebay!

I'm banning EBAY!

Settle on a price for shipment. I've given you some examples above. Don't do the varies shit. I hate that.

You don't really need pictures as I'm sure you can scower the Internet for stock pictures of the phones.

Box one up and take it to the UPS Store and ask them how much to ship it to California. Charge that amount for shipping anywhere.

If you sell them one at a time, they'll be bid on by end users who will run the price up more. If you sell them in a lot of five, they'll only be bid on by people who are looking to re-sell them.

You don't have to run the auctions one at a time, you could run a separate auction for each phone, but all at the same time.

Yes, only lower 48, unless someone outside the US REALLY wants it and checks with you first...
I have a "minimum international buyers price for shipping" now in my auction- $50.00US
I usually do $10 min for flat shipping small stuff.
Do a start bid price to reflect this...
For 3lb phones I'd go flat $20 for shipping, remember this with reguard to your starting price.
You can mark multiple items for sale when you go through the auction set-up pages, you'll see it.

I would definitely get a paypal account. Also offer the "buy it now" option. Start your auction so that it ends on a Friday night.

I wanted to place it for sale with "5 Available" along with it. Is that what you meant Mr. DB?

No that's not what I meant. I meant running five or six separate auctions, one for each phone.

Start your auction so it ends before 9pm Eastern. You want a flurry of bidders at the last hour so make sure people are up and not in the car driving home.

I am a power seller and have over 4000 feedback...any questions..I can help....Let me see here...Brb........

I would do them individually....you can always offer other bidders a secind chance offer or you can just re-list the item. Try to list them on a fri or so for 10 days to have 2 weekends in there. And yes do it when it closes when you think the most people will be able to bid at the last minute. 11:00 am ending on a monday makes alot less sense than say 5pm on a sunday...Unno...

#2 How should I ship them? Post office, Mailboxes... UPS store? The UPS store and mailboxes have been expensive for me in the past.

Make sure you send them delivery confirmation....cheapest way and pack well. Its a gamble....I use USPS...most of the time.

I would do Paypal for sure its very easy and only takes a few days. I would feel safe starting a 10 day auction and getting paypal done it should happen fairly quick.

Auctions are so weird bro....I have found at it works trust me...strat them at .99 cents......have a reserve of what the minimum is you want for them. A good way to check is put in you item and search under completed items and you will see what they go for.....also if you list them seperatlyyou can gauge if they may sell for moree unno......also be specific with payment and shipping items. You only want to except paypal and money orders. You want to only ship to the US. Uhmmm Im trying not to forget anything.....Let me c Ill be right back..
any quesitons so far ????

Also note to self...Paypal is owned by Ebay...I sold somehting a year ago that was like 400 bucks...the guy cried and cried about something being up.... He was lying....so he told paypal he didnt want it and I wouldnt return it. I run 2 paypal accounts. I keep money in one...as soon as someone pays I transfer to one then withdrawal. When he contacted them they debited my account right away. # and ahalf months later paypal mailed me my goods back. Everything wa smissing except one thing. So just beaware the help the buying customer asap then try to figure it out later....All in all I make good money doing it......

Also always use a gallery picture...You can use a pic off the manufacturers site for that and if you want since th ephones sound used include another pic in your description of th ereal thing. Just remember tell the truth of the condition even if its minor so you dont shoot yourself in the foot. Also tell them you live in a smoke free/ pet free environment wether you do or not. You can always and should spray lightly with febreeze right before you put it in the box..

First thanks a lot!

What do youu mean "takes a few days" The PayPal verification? I was hoping to get the auction off tonight for one week to end next Friday. I do have a PayPal account but it's not verified. Also, could I NOT accept Money Orders? I don't want to deal with that. Will it hinder things?

I guess I'll go for one at a time and go from there. I just hate the long drawn out thing. Maybe someone will bid and ask if I have more. If so, should I offer to send them if they PayPalled me or MUST LIST through Ebay at that point?

I just bought 3 phones that way. The seller said "3 for $300, paypal me. When I did, he sent the pghiones and the Ebay auction never moved. He had 11 phones available.

Charge $6 for shipping and send it USPS Priority with a tracking number. Always use a tracking number so that no one can reverse scam you.

Start it low too...and make sure it ends at a reasonable hour on the EAST coast. 9:30ish East coast.....

OK I just saw the same phone auction ended for $91. Not bad. It looks like it was not as new looking as my phones, but that does'nt matter much.

Anyway...QUOTE"ITEM IS ONE USED BUT INGOOD COND. PANASONIC HYBRID SYSTEM KX-T7030 TELEPHONE WHITE . WINNING BID CAN BUY MORE THAN ONE Shipping has been set at $15.00 for the lower 48 US states to make it faster and easier. Any place other then the lower 48 US may be a higher shipping cost . If you need more information please ask, but dont wait to long to ask. thank you" END QUOTE

^^^That does'nt sound bad. "Winning bidder can buy more than one" How about that? And can someone see my above post before this one?

Here we go, I'm going in!!! .... lol

Notice in the upper right hand corner of the LCD display, the protective sticker is still in place on all the phones. I peeled it back to show it.

None of these phone lists are written on. All five phones are like this.
