Eating Tuna

New member
I brought a can of tuna home today to try it for the first time. I never really ate it before and wanted to give it a shot. I need to lose some fat without losing any muscle, I know hard to do, but I need to eliminate some of my carbs/fats and increase my protein intake. I'm not too worried just yet about losing weight as I am bulking right now, but I don't want to gain more fat. I gain all my fat in my mid section and I was looking in the mirror today and I need to do something. I'm an ecto with a pretty big gut.

Anyhow, I opened the can of tuna and gave it a try. All I can say is it was terrible. It smells like something my cat would eat. I forced myself to eat it and washed it down with water so I didn't have to taste it while I swallowed, but I don't think that I am going to be able to aquire a taste for it at all.

I need to find something convenient to eat that is high in protein and low in fat and carbs and won't bloat me. I was eating chicken for a while, but I am so tired of it that I get sick of the site of it anymore. I like red meat, but buying steak all the time would get too expensive and I would probably get sick of that after awhile.

Where do you guys get your protein? I drink whey shakes, but I want to be able to get most of my protein from food. Tuna would have been perfect if I could stomach it.

I am thinking about buying a juicer and juice some vegies that are high in protein. I am not big on vegies, but I could easily drink them if they were juiced.

Do you like seafood? Shrimp, scallops, and lobster are high in protein. Maybe you just need to change the way you prepare your meals. Shop for new sauces and marinades. Try different spices. Mix tuna with ultra low fat mayo. Add chicken to vegetable soup. There are tons of ways to prepare those meats. All you need is a little creativity.

Scoup the tuna out into a bowl, add 1/4 cup fat-free low sodium refried beans, and 1/4 cup low fat shredded cheddar cheese. Nuke it, and top it off w/ some hot sauce.
I just made it up one day off the top of my head. Now I eat it every day...tastes awesome!

Nutritional breakdown:
Cal 200
Pro 50
Carb 9
Fat 5.5
If u want more carbs u can also roll it up in a soft tortilla w/ some diced tomatoe.

lets just say, I finsihed 60 mL of tobasco sauce in 2 days...and i just put it on tuna :S...well i have em on chicken breasts too but i dump a shitload in tuna

the best but most forbidden thing to do with tuna is to mix in mayo :S

olive oil + lime juice = fast and decent enough to eat

Man i thought it was good. Can of tuna, 1/2c. cott. cheese with some chili powder and black pepper all on top of a baked potato.

I did the cottage and tuna thing too... It wasn't half bad...

anyway, nobody said cutting is simple: Dieting can be a bitch until you get to the point where food is just something you need to do... I should have teaken some pics of my Mountain of Chicken grocery list yesterday: 11 lbs of chicken breast... and that will only last 1 week...

Tuna is good in every aspect

I can eat a tuna, straight out of the can, first thing in the morning :)

I have been buying the Starkist Tuna Creations Hickory Smoked flavor and I can just eat it right out of the pack. The sodium isn't that bad on it either.

I hate fish... i eat tinned Salmon and rarely I eat tinned tuna - can't stand the taste, heres what i do:

Drain all the water out, out the fish in a bowl. Add BBQ sauce (Heinz or whatever), mix together, and adjust to taste... Tastes just like a very marinated chicken ;)

OK That actually sounds pretty good. But just cott cheese n tuna w/ nothing else litterally made me gag!

My GOD I Scarcely know where to begin. First, according to you, you:
1. Need to lose some fat without losing any muscle
2. Need to eliminate some of my carbs/fats and increase my protein intake
On the other hand you're:
3. Not too worried just yet about losing weight as I am bulking right now
But:
4. Don't want to gain more fat
Because:
5. I gain all my fat in my mid section
6. I'm an ecto with a pretty big gut.

Your solution for this is:
7. Find something convenient to eat that is high in protein and low in fat and carbs and won't bloat me.
8. I like red meat
9. Drink whey shakes
But:
10. Was eating chicken for a while, but I am so tired of it that I get sick of the site of it anymore
11. Buying steak all the time would get too expensive and I would probably get sick of that after awhile.
So your ultimate solution is:
12. Juice some vegies that are high in protein

I’ll try to answer these things in the order that I recapped them:
1. Damn near impossible to do.
2. OK sounds like a plan, not a great one, but a plan.
3. Makes no sense with number one, you’re either cutting or bulking. If you cut you will lose some muscle. If you bulk you will gain some fat.
4. See 3.
5. While your weight may settle in your mid-section, you can’t spot reduce.
6. Sounds like 5-6 small well balanced meals a day w/ 3-4 days of exercise are going to be better for you.
7. You’re sick of some the better things that will do this.
8. See 7.
9. Good start
10. Get creative with your cooking, try an American Heart Association cookbook.
11. Not true, buying filet mignon and delmonicos all the time will break you.
12. That is without a doubt the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. This table will tell you why: http://www.weightlossforall.com/protein-vegetable.htm

You really need to do some more research, IMHO, the Body for life book or something similar will get you in the right direction.

Best of Luck

tuna tuna tuna....eat to grow bro...forget the taste...its not easy but this is where some achieave and others fail...its all in the diet...as for me, i eat tuna straight from the can...except i have found that i cant eat it everday? get a sick feeling?? dont really know why that is?

Try Tuna Creations by Starkist. They have Sweet and Spicy and Garlic and Herb that taste amazing. Don't taste like tuna at all. Or you can try adding some chili powder to your tuna at home.

Props for this post man, I am reloading...

This is what I do:

Open a can of tuna in springwater, spoon into the mouth, chew and swallow!

It's good stuff. Learn to love it. :)

Lemon juice is the answer. I pour that on the tuna and it pretty much kills the smell.

Pintoca, I see what you are saying and thank you for the response. My big thing is that I eat more carbs that I need and I need to up my protein intake without adding many more calories and tuna seems the best way to do that. I don't like vegies, so if I juice them, I can get some of the benefit from them anyhow. I know that I can't spot reduce, but I need to lose some fat or avoid putting much more on for right now. Once I start to lose fat, my mid section will start to melt away fairly quick on me. That's the only place I gain it. My arms and legs have virtually no fat on them.

I eat tuna straight from the can, doesn't taste all that bad. Hate it when the parents but tuna in oil, because i have to drain it but there is always oil left over!!

why do u say that, i put low fat mayo with my tuna all the time, i do not see why it is forbidden

Seems like this topics pretty much been covered, just wanted to add that:

a) veggies are great and should be eaten multiple times daily, just don't count them as a protein source

b) tuna and a fresh, low sodium salsa is awesome. if you're feelin sassy throw some brown rice and black beans in there and place over lettuce. Its a BB's Mexican delight..
