Earth Day vs Malaria

Gotta love this: 1M-3M people die from Malaria each year. 350M to 500M are infected.

Think the hippie crowd could ease-up on Africa and let us spray a little DDT for a couple of years like we did here in the good old USA?

My dad would tell us how they would fly over and drop loads of DDT on them in the islands (South Pacific, WWII). He had inhaled loads of DDT and been bathed in it too. He had been chest deep in asbestos too, without a mask. Damn if he hadn't been exposed to all that stuff he may have lived longer than 91 years. RIP dad.

Contrast that to him acquiring malaria as a young man and experiencing a much shorter life filled with expensive, partially-effective antimalarial drugs with tons of side effects.

Sometimes it's good to mess with evolution...sometimes maybe not so much.

When you can cure a disease with medicine, great! When you can keep someone alive longer, but not cure their disease so they still die anyway...only give them time to reproduce that defective gene into another generation (which will now need to be kept alive long enough so they can reproduce it, etc, etc.)...is that so great?

Sounds heartless doesn't it? I expect OMEGA to be posting in here soon. :)
