earning respect

almost-pro

I have a scenario for you..

I work in the IT field. I am the youngest person in my department by about 18 years. I've only been working at this company for 3 months. It seems like even though I am just as knowledgeable as the senior level guys, I am always second guessed and I don't recieve the level of respect as the older guys do. Even though I was hired out of hundreds of applicants and have proven my skill level, because I am young I am automatically looked down on as if I am not as smart as the older guys.. It really pisses me off and makes my job hard. Anyone else experience this?

thta is called life... now go make me a sandwich sweetie, and don't worry about this hard posting stuff... uncle becoming will take care of it for you.....

Yeah, in about twenty years, you will probably be doing the same to the "young starters". It sucks but I have learned to deal with it.

Just be confident and assured in who you are and people around you will eventually see you for you. 3 months in, people are still going to be pretty uncertain about you, young or not.

You know how they earn respect in a jail. Get into a fight with the toughest IT nerd in like PacMan or Star Wars discussion and hand it to the motherfucker :o
Steal his gilfriend for an old cliche :martini:

I don't care how smart people think they are, experience in any work related field is important and experiece can only be gained with time.

You will look back in 10 years time and realise that as smart as you are, experience counts for alot in how you deal with certain situations.

You earn respect over a period of time. You can have the best education in your field, but you still need to put in the time.
