e-mail programs - need recommendations

i'm looking for a good (free) e-mail program for winXP. microsoft outlook is not a choice, i hate that program. the last windows e-mail program i used was Pegasus. i had no problems with it, but my gf didn't care for it at all.

i'm on cable, so the program will always be on. i'd like it to be able to automatically check the server at least every minute for new mail (i believe most e-mail programs now have the option for that).

She'll like it because it LOOKS like Outlook, but is much safer.

i hate the way outlook looks and acts though. i could always load 2 e-mail programs though.

I strongly suggest Thunderbird. Eudora has a freebie but it's past it's prime. Outlook 2003 has sweet junk mail filtering now.

oooo, MOZILLA thunderbird.....i have no problems downloading that. one of the first things i did after loaded XP the other day was to download Firefox because i hate IE.

Firefox 0.9 is out.

Yeah, I downloaded it but haven't installed it yet. I'm running 0.7 on one machine and 0.8 on a couple of others. It's a great browser.

got thunderbird set up for her. seems pretty simple to use, so she shouldn't have any complaints.

i've got firefox 0.8. are all the bugs out of 0.9? if so, i'll have to download it.

you guys know of any good free email servers that support programs like these?
