This week I chose Wonder Boys. I didn't catch it in the theaters, but thought I'd give the DVD a try, and bought it sight-unseen. Very glad I did.
The movie itself has an outstanding cast, with Tobey McGuire, Katie Holmes, Robert Downey Jr, Michael Douglas, Rip Torn among others. They take to their parts so well, that you don't see "the star behind the character." This film is very well paced, and had quite a few moments that had me uncontrollably laughing. It was a real surprise how much I ended up liking this film.
The DVD has a near perfect anamorphic video transfer. I only found a couple scenes that I wish had darker blacks. The audio is outstanding, though the movie contains nothing that would really push an audio setup to it's limit.
As far as extras go, I watched the interviews with the cast. If you like the cast, you'll like the interviews, otherwise there is not much substance. There are a few more things that I didn't bother to watch; an interactive Pittsburgh map which shows locations of the film, and a piece on the music used within, both of which contain commentaries.
