dudes who spot you without asking

Goddamn, I hate these people.

I was working chest tonight, using db's on incline, and two things happened at exactly the same time in the middle of my last set.

First, my mp3 player runs out of juice. Instead of listening to method man, I get a nice earfull of celine dion being played over the gym speakers. So right there, that fucks me up...and I pause mid-set in surprise and disgust. At that instant some dude appears out of nowhere and decides to "help" me since I'm obviously stuggling. I didn't even know someone was behind me until he grabbed my elbows and said loudly (seriously this is a direct quote) "push it out bro...do it! DO IT!! move those fuckers!!"

I mean, seriously..how stupid do you have to be to do this? He totally messed up my balance and concentration -- I just about dropped the frickin' dumbells on my head. Plus he called me "bro".

Anwyay, I was fairly polite and told him it was a bad idea to spot someone when they didn't ask for it. He just kind of started blankly at me and then went back to doing curls in the squat rack (again, seriously).

I need to start lifting in the morning again. too many idiots go at night.

I'll stick behind someone if I see they are alone and they begin to fail. I've never gotten any shit from anyone. Always a thank you.

Yea just tonight I was doing decline with dumbells and when I leaned back I realized my hat was on backwards so I called for my friend to take my hat off real quick. Just as I yelled to him this other dude came running over and was like "oh man you need some help dude" and im like my hat and he just gave my a weird look and walked off. I found out later the dude hardley spoke english. lol

I don't understand why people bitch and moan about that shit. His intentions were good and all you have to do is correct him very politely afterwards or just explain the situation. no need to even remotely be a dick (not saying you did but you sound pretty upset). It just happened to be a weird situation due to your mp3 player stopping.

I like to go up to people that are doing it and just press my nuts into their heads.
That is my own special way of helping out.

Especially since I tend to do it at work and not so much at the gym.

I've never spotted anyone without their consent...I have bailed out a guy who got pinned on the decline bench...he he he! I think it was a bit humbling for him to get bailed out by a chick, but I was the only one who noticed him!

I was doing a 14inch press recently, and this guy pulls the weight all the way up to the rack, assuming that I was struggling with it.

yup, same here. of course, i don't help till they fail. but to be honest i usually try to not notice people, so they don't assume that i'm gonna help them without asking, and therefore don't go to complete failure

These people are trying to get on your good side so they can ask you for a source.

Damn it, he said bro.

I used broly in conversation one time and everyone just looked at me like i was nuts. so I don't say it anymore.

And I was polite to the guy, I didn't flip out or anything.

Yeah I was doing incline bench in the smith machine once and was pushing through a rep when some guy runs over and spots me. I wanted to kill him. I could've gotten at least another rep after that one. Then on my next set the same thing happens and I yelled at him as soon as he touched the bar. Then I look like an asshole who's with an inflated ego.

I hate that too. But here's a different situation:

I just came back from an injury, and was repping out on a moderate weight. I asked a guy for a spot, and he said sure. When I got to failure on my 15th rep, he just put two fingers under the bar and basically didn't even try to push the bar up.

It slowly came down to my chest, as I pushed as hard as I could. I had to roll it down my stomach, and it irritated my leg injury to finally sit up. I wanted to spear the guy in the temple with the bar.

i got a female friend to spot me and then had to ask her to stop because i got distracted by her boobies and got pinned :)

from now on its male only, even if i do get tea-bagged

I hate it. They run over and get on their knees before me when I am doing leg extensions... just waiting for me to need "help".

Not to mention everytime I go take a leak in the mens room, some one is always there, asking me if I need help when I "shake".

You ain't seen nothing like the line waiting to spot me when I am on the abductor/inner thigh machine....

I had some monkey pull that shit when I was attempting a pr on bench,if stalled and he ran over faster than a fucking jack rabbit ,I then had to concentrate on lifting the weights and telling him not to touch the fucking bar in the nicest way possible.

had he fucked my attempt up I would have fucking lost it.there must be a sign in every gym regulating idiot behaviour

WHat irks me is when U go to a restroom in a club and there are 1 or 2 men inside that hand U towels and have a tip jar. Man those guys get on my nerves. Like I need help going to the restroom and I'm gonna leave a tip for taking a whiz. LOL

LOL!!!

Maybe they should help you at the urinal?

I like to squat slow , one time this year a dude grabbed me too early , my balance was turned to mush and I was pinned under the bar with the guy preventing me dumping the 400lbs! Sore neck nothing more tho , thank God. I think you concetrate far better without spotters anyway , occassionally I like a spot for heavy flyes , thats it. In contrast to Danielson I think women make great spotters , they love to see men in pain and will only intervene when failure is certain otherwise and even then they'll make u hurt!

one day i was lifting, had a good pump, and i was on the bench. It was only 260 , but i was going for 6 to 8 reps, which is good for me. I was on the 2nd rep, and this guy nicknamed "hurcules"(because he thinks he's GOD) ran up behind me, grabbed the weight out of my hands and reracked it. AND HELL, I HAD MY EYES CLOSED! that made it worse cause it scared the hell out of me. I jummped up and was like what the hell. He preceded to inform the that i couldn't handle that weight without collars! I WAS AN ASSISTANT MANAGER AT THE GYM!!!!!!! he knew that, hell, i knew him for almost 5 years, i sold the bitch a membership! i lost it on him, never tore an idiot a new asshole until that day, but damn, it felt good and i actually got my friend to spot me and on my next set i got 9 reps with the 260! maybe that shit should happen more often!;)

that's awsome. lol

The last time I had a girl spot me on bench was about 2 years ago. She had on very short shorts and no undies. Nice view and all, but I couldn't even move the bar after I noticed.

no more female spotters for me :)

my friend used to be a pwerlifter for his college team in Japan.

Once he was spotting me kinda close on bench and I mentioned he and he was like "I used to smell lots of dicks" or something like that.

Like that was just what happens when you are part of a powerlifting team.
