DORM FOOD........3 large meals?

The Sun Devil

New member
well i live in a dorm and dont have mom around to cook for me whenever i am hungry anymore so i cant eat the good ole'6 meals a day....

well i am asking since i eat 3 large meals and protien drinks here and there, is this restricting my growth?

i get a large part of calories at 3 sitting and cant spread them out though the day.

should i try to eat more meals outside those 3? or if i eat enough at breaksfast/lunch/ dinner be enough calories?

i would like to get around 4000 cal. a day

Eating depends on your budget. There are a number of people who explode eating only 3 squares a day.

If you are concerned about calories, you can add an additional 3 meals (all liquids - proteins with a piece of fruit). Its rough being a college student, because generally we are lacking money (believe me I know!!).

Eat what you can, but don't put yourself in the poor house.

I used to make myself a few sandwhiches to go and take some bagels from the cafeteria, something you can eat on the run. Though I don't know if they are nazis on whether you take food outside the cafeteria at your school...

money is an issue.......i stocked up on tuna and other cheap food....plus dorm food never has meat.....shity as meat

i am used to eat more steaks then a shark tank ( butcher shop in the family)

eating grilled cheese and some chinese food is pissing me off

For 6'3 235 you should eat more than 4000 cals if you want to grow... I would try for at least 6000

I know caf food sucks from back in the day.... Stuff yourself with anything and everything you can when you hit a meal...
Take tupperwares in you bag and when no one is looking stuff em chock full of everything that you might want later...
Get there early so that there will be a supply of anything that might be good to eat- and if you see something that is good, stock up....
Make sure to eat a couple o hundred calories of whatever when ever you take your protein so that it goes to the best possible use and not converted for energy...

I know how bad is sucks- I must have had about 10,000 ruben sandwiches back in the day- I hated em then but I crave em now!

i was thinking that too , im 58, 200, and i get about 5000 cal/day.
being in college sucks ( at least the food part)

bingo, thats what i used to do, i live in an on campus apartment now and cook for myself, i eat about 7-8 times a day around 500-600 calories a meal, but thats cutting. I run 2-3 hours 6 days a week and lift for 30-45 min 4 days.

stock up on tuna and pb
they will become your best friends

my profs. didn't care about eating in class, but i didn't make a scene about it, there were those that drew attention eating, that pissed em off

our meal plans had extra points you could buy to eat throughout the day, i would look into that if i were you

since your parents have lots of meat, get yourself a george forman grill and stock up from your parents(if at all possible)

or maybe they will float you some extra cash to buy more food?

I used to find that scrambled egg on wholemeal toast was a good between meal snack when I was at Uni; cheap and easy...

ya look for high protein cheap meals.....buy egss by 48 .... then make them in the mircor wave with one of those plastic things ....called the "Egg Caddy"

what kind of deals do you guys get on tuna. today i was seeing 2 cans for $1 but thats not even 100grams of protein.... i can get a lb of ground beef for $1 though......

That's probably 80/20 beef though (i.e. far too high fat, look for something along the lines of at least 96/4) The great thing about tuna is it has almost zero fat (usually less than 1gram/can anyway). The bad thing is it gives you nasty mercury poisoning if you eat too much...I should know.

Tuna is always 45cents a can at Wal-mart.

I found it last week at Bi-Lo for 25cent a can for Bumblebee.

Needless to say, I stocked up.

I think cat food is cheaper than tuna. But they never post the nutritional info on the cans. I always wondered........

I only buy either bumblebee or starkist tuna, usually around 50cents on sale.... the generic ones alwasy seem to have some squishy mystery stuff in it and smell kind of gross...

I used to know a girl that would only eat that white albacore stuff... what a pain in the a$$

Theres no doubt, but that pound of beef still has around 90g of protein, and if you strain and/or rinse the beef, you can get rid of almost all of the fat. Really i dont think its much better to buy the ultra lean stuff.
