Doom 3 let down?

Anybody here besides me think that Doom 3 was a let down? The reason I think it is because the damn flash light and it has absolutely no replay value. Most of all the Multiplayer sucks it's like Unreal Tournament.

Beautiful graphics, shallow gameplay
 
somethin i don't like about doom 3 is listening to those annoying pda messages....when i play a shooter, i don't wanna read emails and listen to some babbling audio messages every 5 min

I agree 100% those PDA were annoying as hell!
 
Too may games coming out with great graphics and shitty or average game play. It's like having great icing on a shitty cake. I just hope HALO 2 will have justice done to it.
 
Doom 3 was a let down for me as well.

ZERO replay value.

I had to install a mod to get the flashlight to automatically install on my shotgun.

I played for about 7 hours and junked it. What a ripp off.

in glad i held off on buying it cuz i was getting that feeling from all the hype and trailers, actually i didnt buy it cuz i quit smoking dope and i cant get into games w/o, but doom is special and its one of two games id buy the next version of, fact is there really hasnt been a next generation game and there wont be until there is a quantum leap in innovative programming or (and this is more likely) cpu's, imagine how bad youd feel if you upgraded your system just for d3
 
You hated half life, no way. That was a fantastic game and is still good now.
Can't believe you don't like half-life and the second one looks awesome.

Can't see halo 2 being a let down, there are plenty of people who have had a go on it and they all say how awesome it is. They have done what all good games should do look at what needed improving on the first and do it and add some nice touches as well. Instead of taking out things that made the game so good.

Half Life is full of nothing but cheaters with hacks which ruined the game and many others such as my favorite all time shooter MOHAA which is a complete piece of garbage now. A shame really, online PC games go down the toilet so quick anymore. I think I'm gonna try online console games, I'm sure there are less cheaters.
 
You're right. I am so glad halo has no chats on the cosole. At one time i looked for them like a crack addict, but ended up just playing the game as it was ended up loving every second if it.

It sucked major ass... boring play, althought excellent graphics.. That's all it was, excellent graphics.
 
I've bought Doom3 ( an original for $15) but don't have a modern pc to play it on.

Getting one later this month unfort the latest ati and nvidia cards are hard to find here and much more $ than in the usa.

You guys have me worried now, my entire spec is based on the fastest machne possible for doom3, did no-one out there like the game ?

You will like it at first. The graphics are amazing, detail is really outstanding, but then it gets boring. The same crap around every corner, a beast, animal, or zombie trying to kill you.

Back in the days of early doom, it was very popular, and almost everyone loved it, but the only reason we did (IMO) was because there was nothing else like it. Today it's completely different. I prefer Unreal T 2004 and Far Cry over Doom 3.

If I play Doom 3, which is not very often at all, I play it online (but no more then 1 or 2 rounds). On UT2004, I can be hooked for hours, and if I could, even days :)
 
I stopped playing single player games after I installed my first modem.. Doom3 was cool.. played single player for 5 minutes got bored and went back to multiplayer games (I had a burned CD so I couldnt play it online)
 
Shit! Then I need to know like right now what to do. I placed a reserve for Doom 3 for the Xbox. From what you guys are saying...it sounds like it could get real boring after a couple of hours. I take it this is NOTHING like Halo? So pretty much it is an old shooting style of Doom but with really nice graphics? I reserved the following games a few weeks back. Fable, Doom3, Halo2, Knights of the Old Republic 2, Jade Empire and Star Wars: Republic Commando. I got Fable so far which I must say is a great RPG! Should I go back to the store and tell them to give me back my money for Doom3? Doesn't sound worth the $50. Holla back bros.

All the games you plan to purchase will probably be great titles with the exception of Doom3. I reccommend you rent it first or play it on the PC.
So far I havn't met anybody that can say anything good about Doom3 aside from having great graphics.
 
But bottom line this game doesn't compare to Halo? No type of fun whatsoever in this game? Should I not even bother with it? I like first person shooter games, but they tend to get me sick and nauseas after about 20 minutes. Halo is the only first person shooter that I truly love.

Ahh yes, join the club. The reason you love the game is because the level of artificial inteligence (AI) programmed into it. The enemies are smart and each have distinct styles, personalities and require different strategies. It's like they're sentient. Great friggin game. And i love the fact that when their sentience get too run of the mill, you get the flood. Those are the coolest modern outake on what are in effect zombies. Great friggin game.

My favorite:

The library level on legendary with my infinity home theather towers, center channel and polk dipole surrounds. This is complimented by 2 subwoofers and a great amp. Turn lights off, pull curtains shut, crank up the sound and smoke some high quality Mary Jane. Man what an experience, you don't play it, you LIVE IT.

I find myself playing with a scared grin, mumbling "what a great game".
 
Well then thats a WHOLE NEW STORY!!! Because I have a 64" Pioneer HDTV with full surround sound 6.1 DTS/ Dolby! And yes! I do smoke the ganja from time to time. I did this last weekend! :-) So what your saying gregory is, that if I don't have the right equipment to play this game...then the game will truly suck?

Welcome to my world! :) I'm an audiophile, so my system is my pride. A $1000.00 speaker just can't be beat and two are better then one, so with great equipment the experience is just soooooooo much better. I'm sure you know, btw, i was not being stupid and gloating, just proud of the system that took me years to assemble and pay for. Hey on the note of your TV, is the refresh rate quick enough so as to never get choppy with video games like Halo? Did you hook up the Hi def pack on your Pineer? I've been eyeing a better tube then the JVC i have now.

Of course I have a HD def pack for my Xbox. Man! I just can't see myself playing Xbox games on a regular TV with no surround sound.

True True. Still how's the refresh rate? Ever get choppy with a screen that size?
 
Cool thanks. Man that is soooooooo my next upgrade. My parents have a nice 60 inch plasma in their bedroom mounted in the wall, i am so transfixed by that thing.
 
BTW...will this game make me dizzy and nauseas? Because certain 1st person shooters get me sick! Halo was kind of doing it at first but you get used to it. Unreal was doing it to me big time simply because you have to move really quick looking up and down and to the sides. I was playing Star Wars Battlefront and I started to feel sick but then became feeling fine. Then I started playing Brute Force and that def. made me feel like shit! I don't want to buy this game knowing that I'm going to get sick and dizzy and whatnot.
 
I eagerly awaited for the release of Brute force and was dissapointed by it in the first 30 min of game play. Glad i did not buy it.
 
You might get dizzy because you have to spin around real quick because there is always some damn zombie or demon behind you. But after ahwile you get used to it it's like "hey, whats that sound? oh that means a demon is behind me,I better turn around and shoot."

Hmmm. Thats got me thinking now. I play a game to have fun. Not to feel sick. I don't remember playing Halo as I played it and finished it a LOOOOONGG time ago. But in Halo, is there spinning and turning around really quick like Doom3? Or is everything pretty much in front of you most of the time?
