My dog is trained to do his bidness out on the balcony. There's a tray with piddle pads (think flat Depends diapers) on it that he's supposed to go on and every time he does he gets 1/2 a bone. Now the lil fucker has gotten smart. Rather than go out once and do one big pee he goes out every 20 minutes and lets a few drops out, cuz he realizes that gets him more bones. Sometimes he'll go out and just assume the pee position then he comes bouncing in and stares at me til I give in. Time for Plan B.

yeah bad move, my dog learned the hot dog trick that way, little shit would come in so fast that she wouldnt even go outside and ended up pissing on the carpet, she is now on hot dog restriction

Same here. We take her outside and tell her "Go pee." She knows that if she goes she gets a treat, so she will just squat and pretend. Then, once inside and after her treat, she will piss on the carpet. Little bitch.

A dogs intelligence is a reflection of his owner. Just something for all you guys with "stupid" dogs to think about.

DT, positive re-enforcement is a great tool/strategy. I would suggest that you now give him love after he does his bussiness in the diaper instead of a bone (pet him, and stuff like that) and give him a bone as a reward for a new task you want him to learn.

The real irritating part is he wants to go out 2-3 times during the night and if I try to call his bluff I get morning poop to clean up....maybe I can get sugarplum to handle it.

There is a show called the Dog Whisperer that comes out at 11:00 PM, On DirecTV it's chanel 276 but don't know the network (it's Discovery, TLC or one of those). There's a lot of good dog (and to some extent, human) psychology and training tips on that show. I'd recomend it to anyone that owns a dog and anyone thinking of getting a dog.

It's about this guy that is a dog trainer/psychologist, he goes out to see people with problem dogs and he teaches the people how to correct and eliminate the unwanted behavior. Sometimes they have violent dogs that the owners are scared of and want to get rid of, and he is able to teach the owners how to treat the dog and kill the unwanted behavior. It's usually simple stuff too. Cool show.
