dog died

Lao Tzu

New member
long story short, dog of the last 2 years died today.

Not to be an asshole, but please don't say 'sorry bro', it won't change anything.
Tell me stories about your pets or family members dying and what you went through after it. That will help me out much more.

I did not say anything (on here).. but a few weeks ago mine died too. I had to carry her through the woods for about a mile and bury her on a mountain with a nice view of Atlanta.

To me losing a pet is the most horrible thing you can face.. it is worse than losing a human companion.. at least to me.

i guess thats obvious by your avatar..

i would strongly disagree.. i lost my grandmother last year..

i have also lost pets.. close pets.. it doesnt compare at all

i have a tatoo on my back that is a symbol of my old doberman... it works out to be 9-3-92... her birthday...

that dog meant the world to me... i also will end up getting my old cats eyes tatoo'd on me... i had her for 21 years... from age 5.

my pets are my family...

My lab is 13 and the time is coming fast when I'll have to say goodbye to her. I don't know how I will do it....

I guess that shows by your name.

I had my own dog (lab/retriever mix) that I had raised since he was an 8 week old pup. When he got to be about three, he snapped and started to get mean. I have three younger siblings so that was a no-go. We had to put him down- my parents wouldn't do it without my permission, so after a lot of thought I gave it a green light and my dad put two .22 bullets in his head when he was facing the other way and totally unaware. My dad's not the killing type, but a 70 pound dog with an attitude has no place in a family with a three year old little girl. I came home from school that day and I don't think I've cried so hard since. It was a pretty dark day.

casavant.. no disrespect but thats sick...

i never understood how people could put their own dog down with a fucking bullet... pay a vet some cash and let the animal go to sleep and pass on.

my lab lived till she was 22.. but that is a diffrent dog from the story. Indoor dogs do not live as long. These dogs of mine have alot of land to run on...

I hope your dog lives another 13 years.

Angus... 200lbs mastiff... one of a kind... the sweetest little gentleman... and ready to kill to protect his home and family... losing him was like losing a child.

Thanks dude.

I've had two dogs die and it just breaks your heart. It's not the equivalent of losing a primary relative though - parent, sibling, child; that's just a whole pre-conscious mode of grief straight from the Id. Your dog dying is the pain of losing a friend.

Dog's are life's great enthusiasts, they are just enthusiastic mofo's and great for the spirit to have around.

would you dog die for you faster than a family member???

honestly.. who would second guess giving their lefe first...

point made.

boy this thread really tugs at my heart strings. our family dog is getting old, and I know pretty soon his time will come. :( I don't think I'll ever get a pet of my own. It would hurt too much.

Ive lost a dog and a cat within the last month. Losing another cat to cancer within a month or so. I'm going down the same road as you are. Not a good feeling at all.

I had a lot of girls break my heart, but i never cried like I did for my dog when he died.

He was a chow I had since I was a kid. That was the most gentle dog to us and a great guard dog. He still holds a record for being able to eat an entire chicken leg whole in one bite, at least in my family.

When I was about ten years old my dad bought a dog for me. It was against his religion. Something in the Bible against buying a dog. He told me that if the dog died that I had better not cry. It cost two whole dollars. It was one of the best dogs I ever had. It loved me unconditionally. It got ran over by a car. I still remember it lying on the side of the road with its guts hanging out of its mouth when I got home from school. I didn't drop a tear. My mother cried for two weeks. My dad cried before I would. Then he had the nerve to tell me that it was okay to cry. I still remember him crying when I would not. I was ten. Sorry if this sounds sappy, but I just finished off a fifth of Jim Beam--My joints were killing me after a brutal arm workout. Animals are the most unconditional friends a man can have.

I had a dog to die about 3 years ago..
I stayed in bed all day on Sat. and cried..

I didn't think I was ever going to get another dog.
But in Feb. I got a brand new puppy..
And it has added a lot to my life.. :)

Give yourself a little time, and you will know when it's time
to get another one.

Pets add a lot to your life..
They love you know matter what.. :FRlol:

I have a rare all yellow Tonga Blenny (a type of saltwater fish) that I've had for almost 2 years now. I raised him ever since he was a fucking tiny 1/4" - 1/2" little baby. I even named him after myself - Crumcake.

He is my favorite fish in the world. I think I will cry if he ever accidentally died.

Hopefully he will live another 10 years, God willing.

I live in about 400 acres of land.. I have a Warlock Dobe and a Rotty.. but I plan on getting one of these.. can anyone guess what kind of dog this is??:D

Sorry....

I waited about a year before I could even think about getting another cat after mine died.

I did better with the loss than my hubby did. Tai slept with my man everynight. He'd bitch and complain about the cat mind you. He had trouble sleeping for 5 months after the cat was gone though.

Take time, allow yourself to cry! Pets are, no matter what anyone says, are a part of the family. :bawling:

Thanks Dballer but it is not going to happen. She has all kinds of health problems and it won't be long until we have to make a decision. For now she doesn't seem to be in much pain and is still fairly active but....
She thought she was my daughter's mother from the day she was born, any time there was a stranger in the house she would get between them and the baby and sit and growl, when my daughter was old enough to play outside the dog would "tell" me when my daughter was doing something she wasn't supposed to and when I would spank her the dog would console her and glare at me. She is the closest thing to "Lassie" that I have ever known. My hope is that she will just go to sleep and not wake up because taken her to the vet and having it done is more than I can bear to think about.

Losing a pet and a grandparent is not the same kind of pain but both hurt like hell.

My 4 year old Doberman was just diagnosed with bone cancer. This dog means the absolute world to me. She's like a child to me, a very special child. You know, I've never been one to cry very easily, if at all. I lost my mother last year and was deeply sadend, and my father come close to death as well last year.....I was very sad for a while, but didn't feel devastated. With my dog Cocoa, I feel devastated. I've cried this week more then any other time in my life. She is going to be truely missed, but she will always be with me, in my heart.

here's a pic of her a couple days ago, she just had a biopsy done on her right ankle.

That's an Old English Mastiff, best home protection dog in the world. I spent two years researching breeders. PM me if you need some kennel names.

Some mastiff breeders breed for intelligence as well as show quality. A dog with light in its eyes is a winner.

Last year, October 1st I had to go and have my 2 dogs of over 13 years put down together. One was a black lab and the other was part lab and part pitbull. Anyways my mom had to move from our house that we grew up in and she couldn't take the dogs with her so I had to take them or they would have to be put to sleep. My dad and I were living with my dad's brother until our house was done being built which would be awhile. My uncle already had a lil weiner dog and than there were my 2 dogs and we also had a 2 year old pitbull. The house was overcrowded and after 4 weeks I had to have them both put down. The girl lab had arthritus real bad and lost her hearing, but the boy dog was still in good health with the exceptin of being kinda fat. I will never forget my last day with them as I just hugged them and took pictures. I tried to be tough and was fine up until the point of when we got to the vet room. I just broke down and have never cried so hard in my life. I just held them as long as I could until they took each one of them from me. At least they went out with eachother and I will never forget them. I had two pictures blown up of them and have them framed in my room so that I can still see them everyday.:(

Last year I had a kitten. She was a lot of fun. I took her to the vet to get her spade and they accidentally killed her. I was all waiting for the phone call to go pick her up and instead I get this call saying, "There were some...complications with the surgery."
Me: "Oh no, when can I come see how she is?"
Them: "She's dead actually. We're very sorry. 99.9% of the time they're fine, but every once in a while they have a reaction and don'rt make it."

I was actually more upset than I thought I would have been. Sucked hard.

nope.. not a english mastiff... not even a mastiff.

I lost my dog this last year too dude. It sux. We couldn't even bare to go get him after the doctor said he died so they burried him. He was such a good dog and the day before he died he was coughing and hacking so we took him to the vet the next morning and that is when he passed away. Losing cats is SO much easier.

Anyway what we did was go get a dog from the humane society.

Nordstrom, I have lived through the passings of a family dog and a cat. I've found that it helps to get another pet...maybe not right away, but in a few months or a year. It makes it better than having to stare at the old toys, food and water dishes. I would never let the death of a pet stop me from getting another one, while it's painful to deal with their death, it's going to happen and there are so many cats & dogs out there that are neglected and would be forever grateful to have you to love back.

DBaller, that is a giant teddy bear or a Boerboele. :) I met one once when I lived in SD. One of the cutest things you'll ever see on a doggy playground.

Nathan, that is really sad.....I hope they were profusely sorry!:(

my dog died the day i returned home from school for thanksgiving one year... hadn't seen him in 3 months and was really looking forward... only to find out that he had died that morning... pretty rough...

this is a sad thread....

i have a cat who is getting really old and i worry about losing her all the time :(

on a side note, i have a 2 1/2 year old lab and if you catch me on the right day when she's been particularly destructive alone at the house, i'd let you have her :D just kidding maybe

A child??? Shit....most of the people on this board don't weigh 200 pounds.

I had a Cockapoo (cokcer spaniel/poodle mix) growing up. She was the family dog and we had her for about 13 years, ever since i was a baby. When she died, i could not stop crying, i was 15. And to make matters worse, i just moved to a new state and i had trouble making friends at first so it seemed like my only friend died, and yes, it does hurt, felt like i lost my sister. My dog had breast cancer and she was suffereing so bad, her nipples eventually ruptures and juices started to flow and we had no choice but to put her to sleep at avets office. It was the hardest thing for me, i kissed my dog goodbye with tears in my eyes and my dad took her away from me. I never saw her again after that. She knew that it was her time too i think, cause she came up to me earlier that day and just put her head on my lap as i sat at the stairs and looked at me. I never thought i would get another dog again after that but as time passed, my heart healed and got a boxer, she is wonderful.

fuck dude... this shit made me cry.

yeah bro, my eyes were filled with tears when i typed it and when i re-read it. losing a dog is so much different than losing any other animal IMO. dogs will fight for your love and be so loyal to you. its like all they wanna do is make you happy, its so sad when they die, a part of you dies with them

Bobber.. they get up to about 170 .. I think.. check this out..

I will post more.. let me go find some..

Can you say.. FEARLESS!!!!

hippodog.jpg

A wild female hippo and an aged Boerboel dog in Africa had the strangest of all love affairs. At the Arabie fishing paradise near Marble Hall, in South Africa's Mpumalanga Province, their friendship developed over a six month period in 1998. The hippo, dubbed Betsie by the locals, and Tiger, the Boerboel, were inseparable.
According to Karien Lourens, the dog's owner, Tiger and Betsie would frolic in the river for up to four hours at a time. Sometimes Tiger even got into Betsie's mouth. "She never thinks of hurting him," said Karien, "often he will climb onto her back." The river teems with hundreds of crocodiles, but somehow Betsie kept them away from Tiger.

not in my opinion.. but pure fact here...
Pound for pound.. this is the baddest dog in the land.. they get up to 200 pounds!!!

a Tosa Inu...

Males are powerfully built, ranging in size from 65 cm. at the shoulder, to more than 76,5 cm; and weighing between 63,5 kg. to over 91 kg. Competitively, however; the optimal combatant ranges between 50 to 68 kg. Females are smaller in proportion. However; Japanese tradition proscribes fighting between females.

(91kg is 243.80 Pounds!!!!!)

I didn't read this Thread, but as an animal lover I offer you my condolences brother. I would be quite upset if my pussers died(knock-on-wood).

I take you up on that one...We can switch ...You get my ignorant, selfcentered and destructive rhodesian ridgeback !
Sometimes I just want to give him away to the next person I see...But most of the time he's great.:)

Damn, if I could afford to feed it I would buy a Boerbol. It looks like my dog on steroids......hmmmm???

do not buy one of these dogs unless you have a HUGE yard.

People in apartments have no room for one of these!!!

Bobber.. you are right.. these things eat as much as 3 regular sized dogs. I have a 125 pound Rotty and a 130 pound Dobe.. I bet a Tosa or a Boerboel could eat as much as both put together.
