Does the world really view people like us as 'bad'?

I was talking with some people on a medical list, and hearing all these old wives tales about gear, and myths. Things like they cause you to murder people, will cause tumors from even a few weeks of use, etc., etc. I started to think, people really are in the dark, and think people like us are just a bunch of ticking time bombs waiting to go off on a killing spree, unless of course cancer doesn't kill us first.

Why do people feel this is so horrible? A coke user would get more respect! So many people are out there using really bad drugs that destroy their lives, families, and cause death. We are just a bunch of bro's (and women) looking to better ourselves. Some do it for vanity, some for a living, a few even to prevent things in old age such as lower test. But I highly doubt anyone here is doing steroids for 'evil reasons'. Like getting ready to hurt someone. I just don't get it. I never will. I always believe that people should keep an open mind, and it feels crappy others can't do the same. I've seen people with severe drugs problems that were literally dying, and would hear people comment "what a loser", but I would instead say "maybe they are just lost souls and need some help." Never would I join on the hate parade. I guess for the most part, the general public is uninformed, and close minded.

It's good to be part of elite. Otherwise there would be very few people in real life I could share this part of my life with. How many people would understand that joy, and excitement, when you go out to your door, and the package is there waiting, or when you meet up with your 'friend' to pick some stuff up. Or how great it feels to bust your balls in the gym, to the point where you feel you can't even walk from your last set of squats, and know you are making progress. Thanks to all the bro's who are part of elite, all of you make this part of my life all the more better. With all the great stories, poll's, and awesome information from people like Huck, Ranger, Mustang, Will, and all the other great people on this board. As for the rest of the world, maybe one day....

 Honey... what balls ?
they are on vacation now, remember ;)

OK seriously, the vast majority of our society is ignorant... they judge without being informed, it's sad but true :(

I know what you mean man-I keep my use very secret because steroid users are so stigmatized. I've found it virtually impossible to have an educated debate on the benefits of steroids, people just don't want to hear it. The funny thing is most of those people don't stay shape, eat poorly, and abuse their bodies with alcohol and tobacco and live under constant stress. I promise you that the majority of the members of this board respect their bodies more than the average person.

Thats the beauty of boards like this, its the best support group their is and it offers a wealth of information and experiences that can't be found in the "outside" world. When we're 70 years young and still physically and mentally fit thats when we'll know it was all worth it.

Its funny because me and my friends have always been and to some extent still are serious recreational drug users, but when they (and I'm afraid to admit it now) and myself found out one of our other friends was on roids everyone was on his back. I got a bit interested and researched it al. Found out I knew nothing about it and decided I liked the idea. But my friends are still of the same opinion and theres no telling them otherwise.

I suppose its because where I live the only people who do it are the severe minority and mostly bouncers or seriously shady guy's. It doesn't help matters.

People are ignorant, my brother is a drug addict and my family asks me if I am using steroids like if I am something is wrong with me. As if I said yes, I am all of the sudden the black sheep of the family. The general public are just mislead by the media in my opinion.

same here! Most of my close friends are HEAVY drug users, I mean were talking at least 6 days a week they are high on something...when they asked me if I was using and I told them yes, it was like admitting I had just killed someone, they couldnt believe it...however after pointing out that they are not as bad as the media would like everyone to believe, and the fact they are for the most part the only drug that I'm on, and they will give me a result that lasts longer then a recreational drugs high...they soon saw that they wernt so bad...

As I am an open user, people actually respect that I am not hiding what I do and in turn ask the truth about them... It's probably just like with the pro-wrestling. They respect it more when they realize that it takes a lot of hard work and that there is no "easy way out." When I get people who come into GNC and ask me for advice of nutrition, dieting, training, etc... I tell them that no matter what they do, that there is no easy way out... that no matter what they do or take, it has to do with diet, that the "normal" way of life is not what life should be, but what the generally _lazy_ humans have made it to be. For example:

"Eat 3 meals a day."

Doesn't work.

"Lunch Hour."

Doesn't work.

"Food Pyramid."

Let's not even go there...

"I live on an hour of sleep a night."

That expalins why I am bigger than you.

"I work too many hours, but I want..."

Fuck what you want, isn't health a priority? You have the power to make your schedule.

...there are many more examples, but these are a few. The fact of the matter is, is that we all have the power over our own lives, our actions, and we all have our choices, no matter what the circumstance. If you want to achieve something, don't sit around and complain about it... get it done.

There are 4 GNCs in my town alone... and my customer base is over 3 counties here in Parts Unknown, NJ. No matter what my schedule, I make it a point to eat right, get to the gym, get my sleep... People made life the shits with all of the "civilized" bullshit. As you guys can tell, "civilized life" has brought humans, in general, their downfall. There is no excuse... none. Thyroid condition, I will accept... but that, too, can be taken care of. Piss poor genetics? I have 'em... get over it and work harder. Age? Don't make me laugh. My grandma is damn near 85 and does water aerobics and even hits the machines... and besides, the same principles apply.

To sum this all up, unless you are physically incapable to do some sort of activity, there is no excuse. Anyone who says that it's from a steroid, a supplement, etc... they are absolutely wrong. I know that I have a certain amount of respect in my gym because of how I work. I respect people for how they work... Granted, I joke around a lot on this board, but I get sick to my stomach when I see lazy people (and I used to be one myself) that won't get off of their asses and do something about their lives.

Sorry about the vent, and thank you.

:destroy:

It's all about society and how the media and general population view steroid use.

Take smoking and drinking... Two of the worse drugs out there that kill far more then any illegal drug.....

YET THEY STAY LEGAL and socially exceptable???

WTF???

NOW i'm PISSED OFF!!

A great truth of our society: Most people's opinions are based in PERCEPTION, not fact.

Juice boys have their prejudices too though. I rarely mention to fellow BBers that I am a vegetarian. From the reaction I get you'd swear I had just admitted to molesting young children!

No amount of scientific evidence will change their attitude because people don't let anything as inconvenient as the facts get in the way of what they want to believe. It is the same with the general public's view about steroids. You're just wasting your breath to try to re-educate them. Their prejudices (opps, I mean minds) are made up.

Dammit IM TELLING YOU IF WE HAD JUST GOT THAT PITION IN TO CLINTON WITH THOSE FREE PASSES TO THE TITTY BAR WE WOULD HAVE ALL THIS TROUBLE

Yep, the media makes a big difference.. People are, in general, stupid and will accidentally eat their own foot and fuck their sister (atleast in the deep south :nopity: ) if you don't creat rules for them. The government creates lots of rules for idiots/sheeps/morons but allows them the pleasure of killing theirselves with booze & tobacco..

LOL! I love your post. It is so undiplomatic but oh so true.

WHAT THE FUCK....STEROIDS BASICALLY ARE RECREATIONAL............IF YOU SAY YOU DO IT JUST TO STAY IN SHAPE.......THATS BULLSHIT..........STAY IN SHAPE AT YOUR NATURAL SIZE.........YOUR NOT DOING IT TO MAKE A LIVNG ARE YOU?....NOOOOOOOOO....YOUR DOING IT CUZ U LIKE WHAT IT DOES TO YOUR BODY........THERES NO WAY TO EVER JUSTIFY STEROID USE UNLESS ITS FOR MEDICAL REASONS.....AND THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE..........SO EVERYBODY SHUT THE FUCK UP...CUZ WERE WRONG FOR USING........ITS ILLEGAL.......THATS THE 1ST REASON.....SO IF U HAVE ANY FUCKING RESPECT FOR YOUR COUNTRY......DONT BREAK THE FUCKIN LAW!

ANYWAY...POINT IS.....ALL THE BROTHERS GET TO GET TOGETHER HERE AT ELITE AND OTHER SITES, WE ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY.......WE SHOULD NOT TAKE IT AS FAR AS TRYING TO CHANG SOCIETY AND ITS THOUGTS ON STEROID USE.

Agreed.

.........THERES NO WAY TO EVER JUSTIFY STEROID USE UNLESS ITS FOR MEDICAL REASONS

Nope. Not true. Eating white bread, consuming alcohol, etc are all bad for your body, but people still do it. Responsible use of steroids is not especially unhealthy. I don't see that I have to have a "problem" to justify using steroids anymore than a woman has to be ugly before she can jusstify wearing make-up to enhance her looks.

It's my body so it's my choice. It's difficult to justify disallowing people to use steroids for their personal use unless you think that people shouldn't be sovereign over their own bodies.

.....AND THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE..........SO EVERYBODY SHUT THE FUCK UP...CUZ WERE WRONG FOR USING........ITS ILLEGAL

It was illegal to employ Jews in Nazi Germany, so did that make it "wrong"?

.......THATS THE 1ST REASON.....SO IF U HAVE ANY FUCKING RESPECT FOR YOUR COUNTRY......DONT BREAK THE FUCKIN LAW!

I don't have to respect laws which are a violation of my personal sovereignty. We're not talking about violating other people's rights here, we're speaking of the state disallowing us from making a personal choice.

Peace to you too Brother.

My 2 cents.

Totally Disagree

I think that you guys who have pointed out that the media is largely to blame for societal attitudes towards AS are right. However, it is not merely "news" media: movies such as "The Program" (which someone pointed out), the After School Special with Ben Affleck, The Lyle Alzado story in SI, etc., perpetuate the steroids-are-like-crack-mentality. I was guilty of it myself. Until I started researching I thought that all gear in any dose was an evil deed.

Guess what? I have hit my genetic limits and, in essence, gowing to the gym now is more maintenance than anything else. I want to continually make progress and I know there is only 1 way to do it.

The argument above that the laws should remain the same (by frack, I believe) is terrible. People take drugs, have surgeries (e.g., breast implants, face lifts, hair transplants) and the like for purely cosmetic purposes. At one time, that was also frowned upon. Surely the risks of an invasive surgery are greater than those associated with responsible AS use. Moreover, these people feel better about themselves. I don't think that what you guys are doing (I haven't used yet) is any different.

If the laws remain the same, you will have to keep looking out the peephole whenever you get your stuff. Try explaining your felony conviction when you send out your next resume. I believe that relaxing the laws on gear use would prompt more people to see doctors to monitor their body chemistry, blood, etc.

As for the booze/cigarette argument, you have to keep in mind that this is the biggest source of revenue for federal and state governments other than income tax.

Finally, are there any med students/physicians out there? What do they actually teach you in medical school about gear?

Good post - It's really a straaaaaange feeling being on gear with all the bad propaganda..

Fuck, if I told my white collar/management pussy whipped/Friends&Ally Mcbeal watching colleagues they would look at me like a monster.. (although I suspect most of them think I'm on gear anyway) - On the other hand if I told them I had an alcohol or twinkie problem they would pat me on the head and show empathy...

Anyway, thanks to the stigma it's received Gear is considered the most evil substance on earth. My girlfriend used to be that way - she would be sympathetic to a crack head - "Oh, the poor bastard has been addicted and taken in by crack" but was convinced anybody on gear is an asshole.. Now she's on it and doesn't feel the same way.

Now let's summarize and wrap up this little report:

Society Feels:

- Fat is acceptable and should be "understood"

- Krispy Kreme & Dunkin Donuts are breakfast

- Estrogen is good

- Tesosterone is bad ..

- Muscle is self serving and evil

Until the above list changes I'll keep my gear use in the dark.

I think that most people beleive that we are worst than cocaine or heroin users.

Here's how I break it down.

There are two distinct groups of people who are against drugs;

The conservative assholes who sip on their Brandy and whiskey every night with a pack and a half of cigarettes and a couple of cigars; They beleive all drugs are equally bad unless they are prescribed by a drug dealer in a white coat.

The compasionate assholes who beleive that ALL drug users are really victims of drug dealers; They beleive that all users are "addicts" who can't help themselves. They fell bad for these people who are really just victims.

Juicers are drug users who actually look better than the average population and are in many cases healthier. This goes against these peoples beliefs, it contradicts what they have been taught; so, yes, they hate us more than cocaine users, but deep down they want to look like us.

i have friends whos lives went down the shitter because of recreational drug use.

heres what one of my friends who decided not to goto college to stay with one of his friends who happens to be a drug dealer and gives him pot for free had to say:

"dude you dont even know what your getting into man, this shit can really fuck your life up."

ok buddy. i have a 3.7 gpa, and you, oh yea youre a drop/burnout

but of course im still the bad guy.

What the hell man??? Did you read my post or what? I was disagreeing with the guy I quoted! I totally think the laws should be changed.

Well, pretty much all of my roommates do every recreational drug on the market. Society would normally deem them as "bad" people. Fortunately i know these guys very well... 2 of them are even in the honors program with me, and they are good people, never commited any crimes, and they dont use drugs as a crutch in their life; they understand fully that they are doing these drugs to feel a way that cannot be naturally reproduced. Drug use is a VICTIMLESS CRIME. And therefore should not in ANY way be punishable by jailtime. Some families taht have been broken apart by addiction may argue with my "victimless" belief, but everyone knows what they're getting into when they do drugs. They know that it is possible to get addicted and for the most part, it's not the drug alone that addicts them. Everyone has weak periods in their lives. If you happen to start doing coke on a regular basis during a depressive time for you then it is obviously going to have a more addicting effect on you because you will not want to be without its angelic feelings. Fortunately, I think AS users are the MOST educated illicit drug users around. I look around on this board and see everyday people who care enough about their health to research for months before they try gear. God my thoughts are just a mess but I hate seeing ignorant people badmouth drugs. What about Arnold... he's a good guy right? Well guess what... he used drugs! D:
This topic will eventually be part of my dissertation... if anyone would like to argue with my point, i'd be glad to debate
