I'm one of very few metalheads (or people in general) who can say they never had any interest in '80's hair/cock/glam/whatever rock. I've never liked Sabbath or Ozzy, either. I never understood basing music solely on image like the '80's glam bands. At least black metal was based on feeling and atmosphere, notwithstanding their equally extreme image... hair rock always seemed devoid of any talent while simultaneously lackluster in meaning. The entire scene stood for nothing of substantive value and completely self-destructed, much like punk, gothic, country and rap. Eh, perhaps I'm getting a bit ahead of myself there, lol...
There's some good '80's stuff out there, but it's rather esoteric to the general population: Venom, Bathory, Sodom, Destruction, Kreator, Mayhem, Voivod, Manowar, Kiske-era Helloween, and, of course, the well-known Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer trio.
I'm much more into the '90's era music. When music gets too dated for me, I start getting really picky about the production and sound quality. Probably due to my age and what I grew up listening to. There's nothing before the '80's I have ever liked.
