I'm doing a roughly 50/30/20 protein/fat/carb diet and of course the goal is to keep insulin down, wondering if diet sodas w/ aspartame cause a significant (or even insignificant) rise in insulin...

I don't see how

since artificial sweetners are "left handed" sugars not processable by the body. Additionally, it would stand to reason that some form of caloric intake would need to be present to cause any type of rise in insulin levels. Essentially, from my understanding, all it is is carbonated water with some caffeine and a tad bit of sodium. just my .02 cents, though.

no it does not, need carbohydrates to create an insuline spike, some amino acids will produce one also but nothing like the carbs.

no your research..you will get a higer insulin spike with aspertame and sacchrin...crystal light....just drink water

dr dipasquale says to drink crystal light-I think he knows what he's talking about

What other than the carbonation makes soda a worse choice than Crystal Light? Just because Mauro says so doesnt mean squat.
Brew some tea leaves and sweeten with stevia or something else for that matter.
One or two cans a day wont hurt anyone.

i use to use crystal light for contests

but i always cut it at least 2 weeks out.....dont forget it has 5 calories/little packet add that to 3 gallons of water a day....2 packet/gallon and thats 30 calories you can probably do without diet soda has 0 calories but alot of sodium it will definately retain water....ive tried it haaha found out the hard way to. if its precontest and want to be shredded i say only distilled water....also 30% of fat seems toooo much for me just my 2 cents dieting is the worse ive found the more miserable i get the more ripped i am hahahah good luck

A doctor friend of mine says there are some artificial sweetners that do provoke an insulin response, they use a different mechanism. Also most diet drinks have artificial sweetners that turn into formaldihide and effect the brain. By the way, formaldihide is the main ingredient in embalming fluid. If you want to embalm yourself for an early funeral (my doc says), keep drinking diet drinks.
