does creatine work for women?

Anyone have any suggestions about supplements for getting bulkier (muscles)? The guy at the Vitamin Shoppe suggested that I add creatine to my list. Any suggestions? Looking to get lean but build muscles. Thanks ladies!!

Yes it will work. But I wouldn't suggest it due to the fact that it may increase or cause bloating. Women's bodies handle extra water quite different than men.

Yes. There are now some creatine supplements made specifically for women. They have had good success with the Femme Advantage Creatine Serum made by MMUSA. The serum has additional supplements mixed in with the creatine that relieve bloating and water retention. Again, on a personal note we learned about the Femme Advantage at the Femme FAQ page.

Thanks BB! I appreciate it. The creatine that was suggested to me was in a pill form Kre-Alkalyn 1500...did some research and it is supposed to give you results without the bloating. Have you heard about it? Is creatine the way to go or is there something better, more potent? thanks for your help. jen

Hey Jen I use creatine every day I see and feel the difference when I take a week off ever 8th week.
I use powder form monohydrate.
I have in the past paid over the odds for kreafem which is supposed to be better for us females but to tell you the truth I didn't think much of it!

You could always try it for s couple weeks and if it's no good for you it's safe just to stop some people say it gives them stomach cramps it did for me first couple days but now it only does good!!

Hey Deej..Thanks for the post. Is the Femme FAQ page on this forum? Sorry I'm new to the group..joined yesterday so still learning. thanks for your post.

Thanks Donna!! You've been a huge help for me over the past few days and I appreciate it! What kind of results do you see with creatine? So, is there a reason you take a week off every 8th week? Think powder will probably be more beneficial than pills? Sorry so many questions!! Told ya, Im eager! thanks again.

Glad to be a help It makes a change it's normally me full of ?'s lol.
Within the first couple weeks of taking creatine I started to notice my muscle felt more full and noticeably a more pumped feeling.
It's known for giving you water retention but I've never noticed it to be too bad.
It's great for workout as it can push you for that extra set or extra couple lbs and therefore see faster results.
The creatine I take says take a one week break every 8th week but others could be different .
I order all my sups from myprotein.com great gear great prices. Not sure if there world wide though.

Ps the good thing wiv the powder y can add to shakes wivout tainting tge taste. And also it's cheaper.

Respectfully disagree

Have used daily for years and bloating, in my experience, is brand and formulation-dependent... Some stuff agrees with me and some doesn't.

Great strength gains.

Donna is right on point IMHO

Just make sure to drink plenty of water.

I think also be careful to change one thing at a time so you can really isolate what it is that is affecting you.

In my anecdotal experience from watching others and using it myself those who get the most results are those who likely need it the most (ie if you haven't been eating enough animal protein over a period of time and have been training hard). A lot of "bulkers" are generally unimpressed, I think, because they don't have a depleted state to begin with (they are also often comparing the results to other supps in completely different categories).

Probably too much info but just some food for thought.

C ;)

Well said sister! you have a good way with words C ive never been good at putting things into words lol misspent youth im afraid!!

Anyone get headaches taking creatine? Started taking kre-alkalyn (pill form) for two days now and have a bumpin headache. Is that normal? Does your body eventually get used to it or should I try another brand? Increase water intake?
Am going to just keep going with it (unless I hear that headaches aren't common) for at least few weeks (or until I can't stand the headache any longer!!)

Hey Donna. You are great!! Thanks!! Another very stupid question. Do you know if creatine will mess up a drug test? Googled it and am seeing a lot of crazy answers. I have to take a drug test for school in a few months..so that's why I'm asking. Do you know?

Hmmmm I'm not sure about the drugs test though if creative does show up it's legal so can't see why that would cause them to fail you.

As for the headaches I've spent all day reading up and came up with this. Lower your dose by maybe half see if that helps any also drink 5 litres water a day . Most people that complained bout headaches were ok after a couple days. But rather than bare with it just half your dose then gradually add to it until you get back to the recommended dose. If the headaches don't ease I would stop taking it.

Hope this helps chic!

Thanks woman!! You're the best! I wonder if I'm drinking enough water. I did read that that might cause problems. Maybe if the headaches don't stop I'll try a different brand or switch from the kre-alkaline (however it's spelled) to mono.
Thanks again. You gals have me more knowledgeable over the past few days than I have been over the past year. Thanks chic!

Wey thank you!! Lol. Glad to help. Tbh I think you'll be fine once your body gets used to it. If not yeah you could change to no monohydrate.
I like your enthusiasm lol

Donna.

When I first took creatine I followed the "recommended dosage" and had bad headaches and diarrhea. Needless to say I was dehydrated. Since then I have used it here and there with mixed results. It is most effective for me when I take 1/2 the recommended dosage, eat healthy to gain, drink plenty of water and lift hard. It seems to give me more energy and strength but it still makes me gassy and a little bloated.

When you use are you using the creatine are you using the powder? I'm using a pill so maybe I should switch to the powder so I can have more control over dosage. I've only been taking 1 pill a day for several days. Recommended dosage is 2 or 3 pills several times a day.

Currently I am not using creatine. When I have used it I just use a powder and put about 1/2 scoop in my water bottle and drink while I workout. The important thing for me is that I am eating right and drinking plenty of water. (I would think one cap would not be too much). The biggest plus for me is I feel my muscles have more energy.

Hi Jen. Have your headaches eased any?

Hi Jen. Have your headaches eased any?

No but I had to stop taking them. The last day I took the kre-alkaline pill was last Sunday. By the end of the day I had such a headache that I couldn't see straight. I spent Sunday nite with a pillow over my face in the dark. I haven't taken one since and haven't had any headaches. Sucks, huh?
Any suggestions? I'd really like to get on some creatine because I really think it'd make a difference. Well I wanted it to make a difference. Maybe that's a better way to put it.

I haven't given up. I saw on Psizzle's thread that she was using the power chews. Anyone tried those? They are expensive!! Figured I'd ask. May just try the powder.

May b you could buy a small pouch of monohydrate powder there only bout ÂŁ6 ova here then try that it may be better than the otha.

Glad your feeling betta tho.

it surely does
you will achieve a double chin in no timne!
if you think its quite easy to lose it then guess again

creating = water retention

So are you saying that creatine gave you a double chin that's hard to lose? Damn! Definitely not what I want to do.

Any other ladies experienced this?

Hey D. I bought some new creatine..mono this time in chews. Took it this morning and no headache yet. Fingers crossed!! Was the previous post saying that she got a double chin from creatine use? You use creatine right? Water retention for you? Benefits outweigh cons?

Im not sure if this girls saying shes got a double chin lol!!
Wow I never heard of these chews they sound like a good idea. Yeah fingers crossed for ya Hun! Give it a week you should start seeing and feeling the benefits. If you notice to much water retention it's easy to just stop everyone is different but in my opinion I notice loss of strength and size on my week off I can't wait to get bk on it !
And in my days of training I've know loads girls taking it and they all have amazing figures no double chins!! And like me they all rated creative well!!

A double chin sounds more like a calorie issue...not a creatine issue. ;)

Headaches, I'm guessing, would be bc of dehydration. I'm taking the powder form, just the GNC brand, and I feel like I'm making significant gains. My muscles feel "tighter" and my strength has increased on some exercises. I prefer powder coz I get sick of taking 6000 pills. It's easier for me to just drop it in my water bottle and guzzle. I do the same with my bcaa. Powder form, drop it in the water bottle.
