Hello all!

I have heard somewhere that big deadlift can make your lats huge. And that person brings Franco Columbo as an example. Franco did 732 p deadlift and his back was wide as hell. (one of the widest backs in history and he was only 5'6). And I heard that Ronnie does deadlifts with 800 pounds, and no explanation there.

So does big deadlift = big back?

what is your take on the issue?

reply please!

A big Deadlift does not necessarily equal a big back just like 20 inch arms do not necessarily mean a 200 lb barbell curl. If you have the genetics to build a good deal of muscle size then the deadlift, chin up, & bent over row are perhaps the best movements that you can do for gaining strength & developing a large, muscular back.

kind regards,
jeremy

The deadlift, from what I understand, works mainly the lower back. I am only 17 and don't have alot of size but, my deadlift is pretty good considering that. My back is not big, my lats are not big, my lower back is pretty strong though. I think the power for deadlift comes from the hamstrings and the lower back.

done properly the d.l will force the back tight which under extreme load will obviously be a pretty good stimulus for growth. do em heavy and its like a static hold, especially if you are keeping yourself rock solid up top. no rounding in the shoulders and especially the spine. traps, back shoulders, all will get worked. but as for it being anything that works like a full range of motion row or chinup, probably not as complete of a workout.

big deadlift means strong lower back, strong hamstrings, and strong abs. a heavy deadlift will increase the size of everything in ur body, because of the strenuous motiona nd effort exerted, it releases high amounts of growth hormone from ur body, second only to squats. which will make any muscle grow

i would say hell yea,but also rel on other moves to really hit it.i still think you gotta do the big three(squat, bench, deadlift)cause they just are so taxing on the body.:mix:
