Does anyone train their neck?

If so, how often and what kind of program do you follow? once a week? twice a week?.. heavy weights or lighter weights?... and other than getting stronger neck muscles what benefits do you see by training your neck?..

I often get a stiff neck after training, sleeping on it wrong, and or running and i think i just naturally have alot of stress build-up in my neck.. im thinking of starting training it to alieve alot of my neck problems and was wondering if any of you have had success by training it?

thanks

Trying to avoid a pain-in-the-neck? Sorry, couldn't help it. I have back/neck problems and have since I was a kid (many years ago). I don't train my neck at all. Frequently during the day I will back away from my desk and tilt my head from front to back and then side to side quite a few times. This helps me ease tension and relax me a bit.

Just like forearms, I have rarely ever seen anyone train it

It seems to me neck training would most likely take place at home..I have yet to see a gym that had a neck machine or neck harness available for use....my guess is it must be a hygiene thing

Do some neck motion exercises without weight to alieve stress. Look over each shoulder as far as possible. Put your chin as low as possible and then as far back. Rest your ear on your delt and then the other one, roll the head between delts at the front with the chin on the chest. Repeat and then do this twice a day. DO NOT roll the head around the back as the spinae on your cerviacle vertabrea may scrape together and then you are in trouble!

My neck is plenty thick from doing indirect work:

Deads, cleans, shrugs, overhead presses, bent rows, cheat laterals and even squats.

i train my neck twice a week. with the harness, once heavy (95-110 lbs) and the next light (45-55 lbs) on my heavy days i'll do like 20 reps for 4 sets. light days i'll go 50 reps for 4 sets. actually every night just about, i do neck isos (without weights), brdiges without using my hands, neck lifts etc..... My neck now is about 19 3/4". I box, played football and wrestled so a strong neck is extrememly important for me. I don't get knocked out anymore, don't worry about snapping my head back making a tackle and don't pull anything when i wrestle.

I would imagine having stronger neck muscles may assist with these issues a small amount, but stress release is something to consider as well. What about massage? Another idea to help during training is use of a linament. We use a linament that is also used on horses - it works pretty well to loosen the muscles by providing warmth to the area and sweating. I don't know though if a stronger neck truly relieves these problems you speak of. Sorry. :)

My training partner wants to train his neck so it will become larger...many guys think it is cool to have a big neck - It does look badass. :)

i use a harness for neck extensions, do neck flexion with a weight on my forehead, side work is the same for me...but on my side. i usually keep my reps in the 15 range and it seems to work fine.
