Does anyone own a Sony Clie handheld?

My boyfriend needs a new Palm. Currently he has one that is a few years old. It's not color. It's pretty basic.

He mentioned that he wanted the SJ33 model which is pretty dated as well eventhough it is color. Instead I thought about getting him the Sony Clie TH55 or TJ27. They both are color, have built-in digital cameras, are similar in price and size.

Has anyone used these? Do you like it? Why or not? Wish you never bought it? Would you recommend it to others?

I have never owned a Sony handheld. I have a Palm Tungsten and have always used Palm handhelds so I know nothing about Sony models.

Thanks in advance. :)

I have the NR70V, the tall "skinny" one with the camera. It's sitting on my desk, retired -- I just replaced it with a PalmOS game-player called a Zodiac.

The battery life on the Clie sucked because of the color screen, and I sent it back to Sony twice for repairs. The proprietary memory stick sucks, they messed up when they repaired the memory stick reader (pinched a wire), then they had to replace the entire guts of the thing because my charger fried it. Unpinched the wire myself and finally got the thing working the way it should have worked out of the box.

Since they lose money on every service returns, that 's probably why they have ABANDONED the US market. You will not be able to get Clie's after the current stock runs out.

Yes, I would stay away from them. You want mine, I'll make you a real good deal on it.

By the way, though -- Clie's aside, Palms rock. I've had one since the original US Robotics Palm Pilot 1000 came out, upgraded many times, and would not be without one.

The secret is to keep it WITH you, not stuffed into a briefcase where you can't get at it. If it's handy, you keep it up to date, and that makes it more useful, so you want to keep it handy -- it's positive feedback. If you put it away figuring you'll update it later, later doesn't come; so when you pick it up, it doesn't have what you need; you don't use it, so it never gets updated.

I rarely use mine so I'm thinking of just giving him mine. He has a Palm now but like I said it's an older model, non-color so he wanted a new one. He was looking at the Sony's because he has a Sony digital camera and he wanted to be able to use his memory stick from one device to another. He'll have to get over that. I read a lot of reviews about Sony's after I posted this and many people, like you, weren't pleased completely.

Thanks for your input. :)
