Does anyone know about Part-Time Students and FAFSA?

I'm full time, but I may drop one of my classes because I simply can't hang right now. Does anyone know if this would fuck up my eligibility for a pellgrant?

just register fulltime, apply for fafsa, get your aid, and then withdraw from your class u dont need

I know that each university/college has their own specific qualification for part time and full time.

for example;

I am a graduate student @ Hofstra University

part time = less than 9 credits

full time = 9 credits or more

I only qualify for financial aid if I am full time. If I drop a class to go part-time my payments begin!!!!!!!:bawling:

I just re-read this and should clarify, it fucks it up if you qualify for full time, enroll full time, and then drop below full time while keeping your full time financial aid, you didnt mention if dropping the class would make you part time or not but you said part time in the title

Yes it would make me part-time, and I've already filed as full-time with Fafsa. Full time here is 12 units.

I am torn here because I really, really need the money, but I'm 90% sure I'm going to bomb this class - I'm already way behind.

Yes it fucks it up, at least it did for me, I was placed on financial aid probation for it

What happens with Probation? They possibly take away all FA if you do it again?

for me, I had to go a semester without being eligble for financial aid, then if that semester is ok, you can get it back

Man that semester sucked ass having no money lol

it was my first time bro...they did warn me about it before hand, saying i need to add a class or im fucked....i was just too high back then to care. if your still within drop/add maybe you could look at finding an easy class to add?

Not really any withdrawls either...it was just an 8am class and I was too damn lazy to get up that early so I never went, but that was the only one

I'm trying to add classes now, hehe.

Oh fuck yes. Check this out....

Any student owing a grant repayment will not be eligible for any federal financial aid until the debt is repaid.

EXAMPLES OF RETURN OF TITLE IV CALCULATIONS

Example

Kyle, a California resident who recently graduated from high school, attended DVC during a fall semester. He received a financial aid check for $725 (which includes a Pell Grant payment for $625 and an SEOG Grant payment for $100) in the 4th week of the term. In the 10th week, he received another financial aid check for $725. At the beginning of the 12th week, Kyle dropped three of his classes and remained enrolled in only one 3-unit course. Is he required to repay any of the financial aid he received? No. Return of Title IV calculations are only required if a student withdraws from all classes. Kyle, though, will have a completion rate below the required minimum of 67%, and will be placed on financial aid probation for the spring term.

If I drop one class I'll be at 75% completion, which is above the limit and will keep me out of academic probation.

THANK FUCKING GOD.

Not to change the subject, but can I rant for a second? I thought I was finally going to be eligible for financial now that I'm out of my parents house and on my own. Not with a degree I'm not. I don't know how it is everywhere else, but since I already have a degree I can only get a loan. I don't even consider that aid because I'm paying them more than they gave me.

I dont get it? You end up paying more than they give you with financial aid too....just that the interest is delayed until you are done with school...my guess is if you have a degree they factor that into what they expect you to be making, I remember there was a lot of factors that go into financial aid awards.

You can try going to your bank, a lot of times they have "loans for students" that are similar to school loans, I know Wells Fargo does this, its really low interest...might be an option for you
