does anyone here routinely meditate and actually take it seriously? if so, do you feel their are obvious benefits from doing so? what do you recommend for the beginner?

YO!

There is transindental meditation (TM), Object referel and activity referal. TM - is a mantra based system where you introduce a positive thought into your thought stream.

Object reference is simply analysing an object ...this is the tuffie.

Activity refernce is concentrating on your bodies motions.

The whole idea is to achieve a state of mental calmness where you have a point of no thought. This can be difficult since our minds tend to ramble on with about 50,000 thoughts per day about anything and everything.

how is it possible to completely clear your mind? i just dont picture myself being able to do that. my mind goes like 90mph at all time. in your opinion, which form is better for behavior modification?

Start with TM, it is the easiest because you are altering the flow of your thought stream rather than trying to stop it. It doesn't matter which form you use, after a time, your behavoir changes because you are better able to focus with more mental control.

It is possible I have had moments of pure clarity that are simply stunning.

I agree, meditation really helps you sort out your life as well, kinda lets you step outside of your self and see things a lot more clearer.

Every day. I zone out for a period and yes it has benefits for me. It helps manage stress.

I do occassionally. With meditation you can't force yourself to try to achieve clarity, it just happens with enough relaxation and focus. Don't think about time and simply allow yourself to indulge into your thoughts.

I have a good friend who is in his 50's. Meditates every single day during the evening. He is heavily into it (yoga) and spirituality in general. Let me tell you, this guy looks young like 30 and is in incredible shape (no he doesn't workout). Nothing phases him at all.

I used to do it but not anymore. Well, I suppose smoking weed is essentially meditationg a lot of the time. What I used to do was sit my ass down in a comortable position, close my eyes, and picture some lovely scenery. Basically you o to your happy place. I liked to use my imagination and picture various tranquil scenes unfolding before me. Even tually, you just kind of space out and then come back to it a while later I suppose.
