OWG... check out Will Oldham.. or Palace... kinda off beat, but awesome.

Billy Bragg, Neil Young... there are soo many good players out there. You just gotta sift through the crap.

also.. Mary Lou Lord.

Guthrie was a socialist and the main performer at rallies of the Communist Party of the USA, just in case you didn't know.

His principal heir was Pete Seeger, whom my mama use to take me to hear frequently, and Bob Dylan, of course. Dylan perfomed a lot of Guthrie's songs until he switched from acoustic to electric guitar. Alan Lomax, the great American impressario of folk music, died two or three weeks ago, and was Guthrie's big promoter.

I love the Wilco recordings of the unpublished Guthrie lyrics.

yeah.. I am familiar with his politics. I do not agree.. but I do like his music. I plan on painting "This machine kills commies" on my gutiar.

If you like the Wilco recordings.. "Remember the mountain bed" is my personal favorite... see if you can find the live Jeff Tweedy. I forget the date of this recording.. but it is a bootleg. I got it. It is not a store bought thing.. but if you really like the Wilco and the Billy Bragg stuff... I can tell you where to get more of this stuff.. you gotta download a program kinda like Morpheus to get them. But it is all live shows. TONS of Garcia, Dead, Wilco, Neil Young, Pink Floyd... even some live Hendrix that is hard to find.

None of this shit you can buy in stores.. if anyone is into this... drop me a PM and I will hook you up.

also.. if anyone wants to trade music let me know. I have 3200 cd's and 60 gigs of MP3's.
