Does anyone do pullovers any more?

When I first started lifting I did these a lot as I had a very small chest. Just barely 30" or so. It seemed to do a lot to help with rib cage expansion as well as overall chest strength.

Does anyone do these as a regular part of their routine?

I stopped doing them when I stopped bodybuilding. Nothing wrong with doing them in my mind just not reall helpful for gaining strength. On a side note I had to quit using the cybex pullover machins as my lats were wider than the elbow pads. Was kind of funny I could hold the weight up with my lats and take my hands and elbows away from the machine.

Cheers,
Scotsman

I do pullovers at almost all my chest sessions (at the end)

They give me a funny (not in a good way) feeling in my shoulder. I think its just my genetic structure doesn't get along with em.

Nonetheless, I think that they are probably worthwhile for bb'ers, not so sure about strength trainers.

i like the feeling and it has bodybuilding merits, but i am also unsure about its transferrence to the real world

They've become one of my very favorite exercises in the past few months! :twirl: They've definitely helped me. I see them as a kind of tie in exercise, working the tris, lats, abs & serratus in ways that I don't get with other motions.

I don't understand all this talk about how they wouldn't increase strength, I've never heard anybody else say that about a compound exercise just because it isn't one of the more popular ones. I love them.

the only strength it probably helps...is pullover strength. what other movements would it carry over to? youve never heard anyone badmouth any other compound exercises but this is not a compound exercise. one joint is moving. the shoulder. just like stiff leg deadlifts, not a compound movement.

compound movement refers to multiple joints moving, not a muscle.

unless you count the elbow, too... I like to bend at the elbows just a bit at the bottom of the movement. Gives me a good stretch in the upper tris.

this is a bent arm pullover.

both are still isolated movements, not compound.

Actually I meant a standard straight arm dumbbell pullover with a slight bend in the elbows at the bottom part of the movement, which gives a good triceps stretch. I wouldn't call them a compound movement either, but I sure have come to like 'em. :)
